A week before Good Friday, the Church contemplates Mary at the foot of the Cross.  Mary shares her son's passion.  She co-redeems with him by actively accepting her suffering and also consenting to his.  This consent is an act of love and support for Jesus as he completes his mission, suffering and dying for us on the Cross.  Her fiat at the Annunciation carries through to a fiat at the foot of the Cross.  We need to say our own fiats, to all of those crosses that are sent to us without our initial consent or initiative.  Like Jesus, we will be helped in all of our crosses by the loving presence of Mary.
