Warning: this episode contains detailed accounts of self-harm, suicide and sexual violence. Please avoid this episode if it may be triggering. I will not be providing details of the trauma that led to her PTSD in this post.
Yesterday I had the privilege of interviewing a guest who spoke about her experiences related to PTSD, bipolar type 2 and more. These stories may be difficult to listen to, however I can assure you that this interview includes valuable lessons. One of these being “you are not alone” – in experiencing mental illness or sexual violence. I am unable to state or understand how challenging it may be to share experiences of sexual violence. However, I am aware of the challenges related to sharing your experience with mental health or mental illnesses. In the theme of #BellLetsTalk (yesterday), this interview showed hope and common humanity, where speaking about her experiences went from a source of pain to something that she can share with our audience. Despite the challenges she faced; things got better with hard work, time and speaking about her experiences with professionals. I felt inspired when I noticed that she was okay after sharing stories that used to cause panic attacks. I hope that you can find hope and inspiration in her stories as well.
