It looks like Melbourne will remain locked down until at least Thursday night. There are now two separate Covid outbreaks in the city – one involving the more infectious Delta strain – and no one knows how it crept into the community. Some in the Morrison Government are privately scathing and have publicly grumbled about Victoria's repeated shutdowns. But the Prime Minister is clearly sensitive to criticism his own government has dropped the ball – and this week shifted ground. He's agreed to income support for stranded workers – a new quarantine facility – and has even enlisted a General to turn the vaccine roll-out into a military-style operation.
