Outcast

The things that God plants are organic and pure. They are meant to grow and produce what they were created for. There is the spirit and the flesh. What is of the spirit pleases God, but what is of the flesh is not pleasing to Him. The flesh is the very thing that produces thorns and thistles, which will eventually choke the plant God placed within you. It is not God who does this, but rather those who contaminate it through the desires of the flesh.

Prayer, fasting, and wisdom are essential to your walk with God. Keep all three in harmony, just as the apostles did. They left us a perfect example of how prayer, fasting, and wisdom should play out in our daily faith. However, there will be moments in our walk when one might override the others—and that is exactly where things can go wrong.

The Lord says “For just as rain and snow fall from heaven and do not return there
without saturating the earth
and making it germinate and sprout,
and providing seed to sow
and food to eat, so my word that comes from my mouth will not return to me empty,
but it will accomplish what I please
and will prosper in what I send it to do.” God’s mission will never stop, for what He says will be done no matter what. So, either you hop on God’s mission, or you will be replaced.

Do you really think your plans and God’s plan are being mixed together? Or do you really think you can bend your plans into God’s plan? Absolutely not! God is the one who hands out talents and He is the one who gives purpose. We do not give ourselves talents and we do not give ourselves purpose; rather, we seek after His purpose.

Godly ambition? The Word of God never speaks of such a thing, but rather tells us to make it our ambition to lead a quiet life. Ambition builds a confidence that relies entirely on whatever that ambition is striving for. But if those things are taken away, where is your confidence then? Our confidence is in Christ. The confidence we have in Christ is because we deny ourselves, take up our cross, and have faith in Him—for we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us.

Ambition is an action seen everywhere—whether it is the pursuit of money, fame, or glory. It is often considered the key ingredient to reaching one’s goals. But that is the world’s standard, right? What happens when a follower of Christ introduces ambition into their mission for God? Unavoidably, human ambition leads us to turn our backs on God. In Scripture, whenever personal ambition was mixed with God’s mission, destruction and failure followed. God’s mission is for His glory; our mission is to be vessels for Him. As Paul says, make this your ambition: "to lead a quiet life."

We often compromise our faith; yet 'compromise' means to weaken, damage, or make something unsafe. Faith in God and the word 'compromise' do not belong together, for faith in God is not meant to be weakened, damaged, or made unsafe. Rather, we make ourselves weak. We cause damage to what we hope for and create instability through our own doubt.

When we look at nature, we see that even animals have an instinct to wash and be clean. However, they can only stay clean if a source of purification is provided—which, in their case, is water. In the same way, God has provided a way for us as followers of Christ to wash our robes daily.

For the follower of Christ, being truly involved in God’s mission carries great weight. At the moment we thrash against His divine plan, the ripples of our choices do not stop with us; they pull at everyone within our reach. From Genesis, the ripple effect is shown to us through the actions of Adam and Eve, for we are still experiencing the consequences of the choice they made. So, to those who are on God’s mission: discern and be watchful, so that you may know the perfect will of God.

This episode was recorded during a Bible study. We discuss the Book of Luke, specifically where Christ says, 'To whom much is given, much is required.' This is a passage every believer should pay attention to, as it reminds us that the more God bestows upon us, the more He will hold us accountable.
