  • Overthunk Ep 17 - Okay Panic!! **Special Guests Steven Rodgers and Andrew Schiavone from Panic Attacking Podcast**

Welcome to episode 17 of Overthunk!  Remember when characters from your favorite sitcom guest star on another one of your favorite shows…?  Well that is what this episode is like… for me!  Today we lucked out and have the guys from Panic Attacking Podcast @panicattackingpodcast, Andrew Schiavone and Steven Rogers.

Andrew and Steven are incredibly witty, funny and insightful not to mention really nice guys!  In today's pod we get into a variety of topics… my anxiety about our dog almost choking to death, Aaron get’s roasted a bit and gets in on the fun and takes some shots of his own, Steven gives some practical relationship advice and Andrew shares some tips on lowering cholesterol.  Andrew and Steven are also accomplished NYC comedians.  They’ve been in comedy for 8 years but my guess is they’ve been bringing the laughs much longer than that!  Enjoy and you can check out their podcast wherever you get podcasts!

  • Overthunk Ep 16 - Getting Better All The Time

Welcome to Season 2 of Overthunk!  Thanks for taking this trip with us as we go on about our overthinking, anxiety and things generally troubling us.  As we reflect back on the past year we recognize our wins and possibly some things we may want to improve upon.  In this episode we're going old school back to our original format with just Aaron and me.  Enjoy as Aaron explains to me what a "snowflake" is and as I stutter over my words trying to articulate my thoughts... words are hard sometimes...

We are wishing you all the best in 2021 and if you're having a tough time letting go of 2020 here's a thought.  What if you went back through your past year and wrote a list of credits like at the end of a movie.  All the people who made a contribution in your life from the barista who took time to be friendly when you needed a little kindness to your friends and family near and far that listened when you needed someone to listen to the people who comforted us and gave us some laughs on social media.  The fact that you are here today listening to this means your past year was a success if you choose to look at it that way.  It may not have been easy or even enjoyable the whole time, it was though, a success.

***Have a question or topic for us?  Want to share something you're overthinking or anxious about leave us a message and we just might feature it in an upcoming episode!!  https://anchor.fm/overthunk/message

Wishing you more success this year as you take on risks and adventures into the unknown!!

    Peace and Love,
    Aaron and Chris

  • Overthunk Ep 15 - Go Validate Yourself with special guest Ben Berman

Get ready for episode 15 of Overthunk with our amazing guest, Director / Producer / Filmmaker, Ben Berman!!  I love what Ben says about his experience making The Amazing Johnathan Documentary.  To paraphrase he got to collaborate with friends to make a movie and part of the magic was just getting started and figuring it out along the way.  He said it reminded him of how he would make videos as a kid.  I know this feeling!  As kids we are just following our impulses to be creative and have fun.  We aren’t worried about getting paid for it… we’re not worried about it being the next big thing… we are being curious and playful, just enjoying ourselves in the moment.

Something else that struck me about Ben, he stays flexible and finds a way to the end result.  He mentions a great book by Ryan Holiday “The Obstacle is the Way”.  Things may not always be clear in the moment but he perseveres because no matter what he has to go through once he gets to the other side of the obstacle he will have achieved the goal.  He keeps his eye on the price… ah, I mean prize.  I wrote price by mistake and decided to leave it because here's the thing.  Are you keeping your eye on the price and making decisions whether to go all the way or not based on what it costs you (discomfort, nervousness, being unsure, feeling outside your comfort zone) or are you truly committed to keeping your eye on the prize - the end result?

Remember this, “The difference between the difficult and the impossible is that the impossible takes a little longer.”  So hang in there and hang with it!!  Everything will work out, you just have to get started and keep going.

  • Overthunk [Bonus] Ep 14 - The One About Gratitude

Welcome to this bonus episode of Overthunk!  Today’s episode features your favorite ensemble group of overthinkers, Aaron and Chris, along with some excellent guests.  This one kinda came out of the blue… and then faded away and then came back again!  The rhythm and cadence of this one felt like it perfectly mimicked the patterns in life.  First came this idea then some movement, then some interruptions, procrastination, doubt and then new inspiration and perseverance to keep going until the conclusion.

For me this may be the most personally rewarding episode I’ve done so far… The holidays were different this year for most I imagine.  We canceled plans to travel and see friends and family and I let that take a toll on me emotionally.  These conversations reminded me of the love and support we offer each other through good times and challenging times.  It was a powerful reminder that being grateful isn’t a matter of circumstances it’s a choice we make moment by moment day by day.  Thanks to my wife and son, Tiffany and Preston, my partner in the podcast, Aaron, my brother Tom and my Dad, Ken Baker for being a part and for helping lift my spirits today and always.

I would encourage you to do something similar if you feel the urge.  If you’d like some pointers on how to record your own conversations with family and friends feel free to drop me a line at [email protected]

  • Overthunk Lucky Ep 13 - What Is Your Name Sir?...Resilience

Welcome to episode 13 of Overthunk!  Today’s episode features Aaron’s Navy buddy Jake!  If we were to boil this episode down into one word it would be resilience.  Jake shares his story about getting out of the Navy and starting over.  Very fitting because we’re about to start a new year.  Sometimes we get caught up thinking that everything must be just right for us to START something new… Jake’s story is proof that one’s circumstances have zero to do with being able to accomplish a goal whether going back to school or making a feature film.  YOU CAN AND YOU WILL (if you decide to).

Aaron also shares some wisdom from Jessica Alba’s new show and reviews the new Wonder Woman 1984.  Chris shares about his coping mechanisms and his take on what pivot means. This one is true to form as we go around the world of topics and again land back at overthinking and self realization.

In one short year we’ve made over 13 episodes of Overthunk and are grateful to share this journey with you.  Wishing you a healthy and happy adventure in 2021.  And if we can do it… you certainly can.  To quote Jake, “You gotta work on that shit everyday!”

  • Overthunk Ep 12 - That’s Right, it’s Andy Dooley!!

Welcome to Episode 12 of Overthunk, your favorite hour of overthinking and anxiety!  Today we have a very special guest, best-selling author and Mindset Breakthrough Coach Andy Dooley!!  Andy is a seeker of knowledge, fun and adventure!!  One of the things I love about Andy is his humor and compassion for the human experience.  Andy is also an improv actor and co-founder of TUT.com.

Enjoy as we go on a journey from stressed and overwhelmed to being joyful in the moment.  Andy is all about growth and transformation and this episode is a real time example.  The proof is in the pudding as Aaron says!

You can catch Andy on-line at AndyDooley.com or on all the social media channels as Andy Dooley.  Check out his videos on tik tok for some light hearted mindset tuneups.  He also has some wonderful meditations on Youtube.

Go with courage, confidence and commitment and find your charisma and clarity on the way!

And remember as Andy says, “Get happy first, manifest your dreams second!” (Note: Things don’t have to be perfect for you to be joyful.  We can all find something to be joyful about.)

  • Overthunk Ep 11 - Oppositional defiance... What do you mean I can’t twerk here…

Welcome to episode 11 of Overthunk!  Today’s episode features Suzy the Natural.  Suzy had a tough upbringing which could be what gives her such a unique point of view.  She recalls an instance where she was sick with pertussis and instead of going to the doctor she got her mom’s cure all remedy, a warm washcloth.  She also shares with us her anxiety during Coronavirus of getting any and all diseases and her dislike for authority.

She also shares her experience of being fired for wearing sunglasses all day, twerking at work and her “disturbing social media” [their words]. But despite all this Suzy says “It’s my time to shine!”

She says, “Regardless of what you do for a job You have to be of service.  Your life won't ever amount to shit if you’re not in service…”

I tend to agree with this philosophy of helping others.  It reminds me of a favorite quote from Zig Ziglar, “You can have everything in life you want, if you will just help other people get what they want.”

In the spirit that Suzy has shared about helping others here are a few other Zig Ziglar quotes to ponder… I couldn’t decide on just one… so here you go,

“You were born to win, but to be a winner you must plan to win, prepare to win, and expect to win.”

“People often say that motivation doesn’t last. Well, neither does bathing – that’s why we recommend it daily.”

“You never know when a moment and a few sincere words can have an impact on a life.”
    - Zig Ziglar

  • Overthunk Ep 10 with guest George William Basil - Smile More and Get Shit Done!

Welcome to episode 10 of Overthunk!  Today’s episode features George William Basil.  You’ll recognize George from the hit show Crashing on HBO, also Silicon Valley, Flaked, Santa Clarita Diet, The Good Place and Big Brother Volcano.

We recorded this one a few weeks back and apparently I can’t count… we say this is episode 11, however, this is actually episode 10.  Now that’s out of the way… Enjoy as we talk to George about his adventures as a line cook, a welder and his journey into acting.

One of the things I took away from this conversation is persistence in your dream… George talks about going to comedy clubs hundreds of times and not getting on stage although his friends were encouraging him to go for it.  He found his groove in New York with a few other guys in a comedy troupe “Four Track” and they kept doing their show night after night until one day they started drawing crowds who would like up down the block to see their show.  He’s very candid about the fact it did not happen overnight...  but you can’t deny the fact that good things come to those who bust their asses.

Keep smiling, pooping your pants and getting shit done!

    Love,
    Aaron and Chris

  • Overthunk Ep 9 - What We Love About Aaron ♥

Welcome to episode 9 of Overthunk!  Today’s episode features Architect Andre Clark originally from Jamaica.  We recorded this episode back on July 5th and then we recorded 2 more episodes that same day… and then I (Chris) moved and then… excuses, excuses… Anyway we’re very happy to be getting this on-line.

Depending on how you’re counting we’re in our 5th, 6th, 7th, or 8th month of this pandemic and for me I am really thankful for our podcast!  I love talking to my pal Aaron and all our guests.  It’s a relief from the daily grind of staying home, working from home and knowing the dishes are always looming in the kitchen waiting to be done…

Andre shares with us what it’s like working with Aaron, growing up in Jamaica and some of his adventures around the world.  I got the impression he’s a very chill dude but according to he and Aaron he’s the most stressed out Jamaican out there…

Enjoy!  Stay safe and treat yourself today!  You deserve it!!

  • Overthunk Ep 8 with guest Charles McBee - I pledge allegiance... to COMEDY!

Welcome to episode 8 of Overthunk!  Today’s episode features New York City Comedian Charles McBee!  We recorded this a few weeks back, however, due to everything that’s been going on we were slightly delayed in getting this on-line.  I love the conversation we had with Charles and I think you’re going to love it as well.  He is as thoughtful as he is talented!  Actually here’s a great quote from Charles’ that I wrote down - “Let today be the day that you evict anyone who is living in your head rent-free that you don’t want up there.  Don’t even wait until the 1st.  Tell them to get their shit and bounce.” Charles McBee

As the human race works towards a comeback comedy seems to be leading the charge.  At least it is here in NYC.  It’s been and still seems to be a challenging time for many of us and I’m thankful we get to laugh along with guys like Charles whether over zoom or live now in Astoria, NY at QED.  Sit back, relax and enjoy Ep 8 of Overthunk with Charles McBee.  You can find Charles on Instagram, Tiktok and all over the internet - https://www.instagram.com/charlesmcbee

Stay safe, take care, and be kind to yourself.

About Overthunk

From the publisher's feed

What happens when 2 over thinkers get together and start a podcast? Exactly what you might imagine. One day at a friends wedding Aaron and Chris had an idea, it sounded like fun, we talked about it and then we thought about it for several months… What would it be about? What will we say? Who will listen? Will it be any good? How the hell do we even make a podcast??
