Tales of teenage remorse and lack there of..rose petals, MIP's, car wrecks, and consequences. Is empathy learned or is it inherent? That's right, the old nature vs. nurture question with a little different spin.
Is it really worth it to open up and communicate, even if it doesn't change the outcome? How do you raise kids anyway?

Intro by anonymous A cappella singer man, recorded in a noisy kitchen leads to a conversation about artistic voice. Ya know that movie Wall-E? The little robot who runs around cleaning up "foreign contaminants" could erase the human element from your voice. Sarah n Phil challenge the notion of "Find your voice" and replace it with the evolving expression of a person, an actual human being. "I'm not rapping anymore, I'm just talking," Phil.
"My daughter Sophie was a competitive gymnast and people would always ask her if she was going to the Olympics? They didn't understand that the only purpose of gymnastics was not to go to the Olympics, just like the only purpose of making art is not to write a best seller or have a number one album. It is for personal development and understanding," Sarah.

Featuring "The 5th Rider" with Intro. written by Rob. This piece is dense with meaning. You may have to listen twice.
Sarah n Phil discuss the theme for their November show "Never Would I Ever." As always this leads them down the rabbit hole where they discover some pretty cool ideas about marriage and the reclamation of words. Phil tells the story of how he bought a ring once.
They also stumble upon the idea of 'small art' and decide Own It would not be better if they packed a stadium and had a show. In fact they would probably loose the magic.

Wouldn't it be cool if they left one of the trees in its natural state, a tribute where it fell?
Who would a sign a petition to "Remember the Trees?"
Does claustrophobia lead to destruction?
We joke around a lot about not knowing what we are doing, but we do know what works for us, and what we want. How does desire keep us alive? Phil talks about his recent trip to the desert where he heard what he really wanted. There is a silence in the desert, an openness which is the opposite of claustrophobia.

"You could get yourself into some real trouble..doing that," Sarah.
"I'm just trying to live on the microphone," Phil. Speaking in the moment. What are you waiting for? What holds a person back from creating the thing they want to create? Could they be an artist in the shadows? Sarah n Phil discuss points of convergence and how they build momentum out of those shadows.

"I have to wake up really early in the morning to have enough time to understand myself," Sarah. What does it mean to be a hard working artist? What is the difference between being possessive and protective? If everybody is talking, who's listening? Will Own It go back to the desert? Fellowship Hall was open for 21,900 days in a row without adult supervision, and then they passed the torch.

From the red sun planet of Tatooine, or Granstville, hear the recap of the first live Own It show since the pandemic. At Own It in the Desert we had tiki torches, popsicles, microphones, a traveling beat box, a freestyle performance from Phil, dance from Recovery Vibe, a short film from Sabrina Blackburn, a jagged lil pill from Andre, a singing marine, baseball mits, camp chairs, and an intermission dance party. Sarah talks about how her life is a freestyle. It was so cool we may have to do it again.

Sarah failed the test between EP and LP. We never use the word profound cuz it’s special, like grandma’s good china. Phil the freestyle rapper returns with new and improved skills. Oh, and he’s in a band now. Own It takes the whole circus to the Grantsville desert on August 22nd. It’ll be profound. (See what we did there?)
