Today on the 5: While listening to the most recent episode of TWiT, the subject of social media came up. That discussion reminded me of some comments I've seen from creators lately in terms of social media promotion declining. It's pretty depressing since i'm not sure if there's any real replacement to those avenues for independent creators to use for advertising themselves.

Today on the 5: Etsy started off as a fantastic place to find vintage and handmade pieces, and it found a lot of success doing so. Sadly, those days are long past and it feels like the company is outright admitting as much with their recent label reclassifications.

Today on the 5: Emma Roberts recently did an interview about an upcoming film, and during that conversation she attempted to pin the failure of Madame Web on a meme from the trailer. While I admire the gall of that attempt to offset the problem with the film, it's nonsense.

Today on the 5: Over the weekend I watched a delightful little horror film from 1983 titled The Deadly Spawn. It combines great practical effects with some surprisingly well written characters to deliver a fun little slice of early 80s horror.

Today on the 5: I'm a fan of Patrick (H) mWilems, and I generally think he makes great videos about film and opur relaituonship with movies. He recently made a video about his trip to Cannes, and towards the end he made a comment that I feel relfects an outdated way of thinking.

Today on the 5: I had somewhat forgotten that a new Hellboy movie was on the way until a new trailer debuted this week. While nothing in this latest entry seems aimed at recreating the magnficence that Guillermo del Toro achieved, I'm not as down on this as others seem to be. 

Today on the 5: Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is finally available to rent or purchase digitally. My wife and I have been waiting to see the latest entry in the Mad Max film series, so we set aside the time and watched it this past weekend.

Today on the 5: Last week I talked about the real issue with generative AI in terms of one specific person and their views on creativity. I hate to sound like a broken record, but when story after story after story after story underlines what I was talking about, I can't keep my mouth shut.
