In today’s Gospel, Jesus lays out some “conditions” for becoming one of his disciples. Tune in as Fr. Mattingly breaks down perhaps the most confusing of these of conditions, namely, that we cannot allow even those closest to us (parents, spouse, children) to hinder us from our pursuit of Jesus Christ as our #1 goal.
Peter made himself, his boat, and his nets available for Jesus to use to catch fish. The Lord also wants to make use of each of us and our gifts to “catch men.” But do we make ourselves available for Him to use to catch others? Learn two important ways to make yourself available to the great Fisher of Souls.
The Chesterton Academy is a brand new classical Catholic high school here in Kansas City, and Fr. Mattingly is one of the part-time chaplains for the new school. Tune in as he addresses the school community in a homily during the Mass of the Holy Spirit, inaugurating the first ever school year of the new Chesterton Academy. He discusses truth, goodness, and beauty, and their role in education.
Think you know what the virtue of generosity is? Think again! If you’re like most people, hearing the word “generosity” conjures up images of someone who gives a lot… a lot of time, energy, money, etc. But that’s only half of what is required for this great virtue. Listen as Fr. Mattingly explains what else is required, illustrated by no less than five practical examples (not sure of the exact number of examples he gave… lost count!).
In today’s Gospel for the Feast of St. Bartholomew (also known as Nathaniel), Jesus praises this apostle for having “no duplicity in him.” Listen as Fr. Mattingly describes the virtue of sincerity (the opposite of duplicity), and three situations in which you can practice this virtue.
Listen as Fr. Mattingly unpacks some potential motives that may have been behind the question posed to Jesus in today's Gospel: "Lord, will only a few people be saved?"
If you've ever felt that serving the Lord is a burdensome task, you'll want to listen in to this short homily!
Tune in for an interesting reflection from Fr. Mattingly on this glorious feast day. He dives into the relationship between sin and death primarily, but also some more positive themes, too!
Listen as Fr. Mattingly outlines the two manifestations of the virtue of fortitude, honing in particularly on endurance, or grit, while giving many practical examples of what this looks like in the life of a Catholic.
Tune in to hear why one of the things that helped St. Clare to become a saint is vital for us to imitate if we are to become saints as well.
