  • Captivated with Tom Jones

In this episode of The Page Turner Journal, host Joey Hungerford sits down with author and longtime ministry leader Tom Jones to discuss his latest book, Captivated: Your One Wild and Precious Life and the Loving Outrageousness of Jesus. Tom shares the story behind the book's striking title inspired by poet Mary Oliver's famous line, "What is your plan for your one wild and precious life?" and traces his own journey from the early campus ministry movement to founding Discipleship Publications International with his late wife, Sheila.Together they explore what it means that Jesus asked for everything — not a corner of our lives, but our whole hearts. Tom unpacks why Jesus' core message was the Kingdom of God (not just a ticket to heaven), what repentance really means, why Jesus opened his teachings with "amen," and the radical nature of his first command: love your enemies. They also dig into a surprising chapter on why the word "church" shouldn't be in our English Bibles tracing it back to King James' translation directives.Grab a copy of Captivated from IPI Books: https://ipibooks.com/products/captivated?srsltid=AfmBOoqISDcU0Dwq5sOTZisK6A3LYeABmV3gmtV1gQ1Wm6qhNyujLJ5U

  • Walking in the Light with Andy Fleming

Joey Hungerford interviews Andy Fleming about his new book "Walking in the Light", written out of research sparked by challenges around church discipline, public warnings, and disfellowship, but focused mainly on cultivating open, transparent relationships that keep churches healthy and prevent crises. Andy discusses why Matthew 18 is difficult to follow, what happens when conflict is avoided, and how discipline should be an extension of love rather than a leadership announcement. He argues for leadership transparency about decision-making principles, and describes a practice he developed in 1990s Moscow: involving a person’s closest relationships in a focused group that pleads for repentance and, if necessary, confirms the need for next steps. Andy emphasizes confessing weaknesses and temptations before sin, warns against unnecessary details, and notes his book includes end-of-chapter discussion questions and models for the Matthew 18 church discipline process.
