Recently there has been a concern from Star Wars fans regarding who should play the live-action version of a character introduced in animation. For example, some fans were adamant that only Ashley Eckstein could play Ahsoka Tano in live-action. They were very disappointed when someone else (in this case Rosario Dawson) was cast as the character instead of the original voice actress. Join with me as I responsibly speculate as to why some voice actors get to play their live-action counterparts while others do not.

In this particular storyline, Dr. Arik Soong, the ancestor of Data’s creator, has stolen a batch of human embryos leftover from the infamous Eugenics Wars of Earth. These embryos have been modified through genetic engineering to produce a race of “supermen” in the same vain as Star Trek’s most famous villain, Khan Noonien Singh. George Lucas began writing his space opera in 1973, with a two-paragraph outline which was literally out of this world. The following year, he wrote his first full-length draft of the screenplay, entitled The Star Wars. Join me as I examine this original draft and how it evolved to the story we all know and love.

On this penultimate episode of my gratitude week, I'd like to express my thanks for the concept of the Force. As a religious person, the philosophy and theology of the Force speaks to me on a deeply personal level. George Lucas took many concepts of the world's religions and boiled them down to their essence in such a way that every person of a religious and spiritual persuasion, even if they believe in a god or not, can understand and apply those lessons to their own lives. Join me as I celebrate what is possible Star Wars' greatest contribution.
