Paint the Town Dead

Two men, Carter Elliot and Timmy Robertson are murdered in their home in Conway, Arkansas. Police have few leads and seemingly no suspects. That is until Elliot's ex-wife, Lark is kidnapped by her most recent ex-husband, Richard Conte. Lark is safely let go after a standoff with police, and what they find in Conte's cabin raises more questions.

Afterwards, we talk Dune, Blade Runner 2049, The Song of Achilles, Scenes From A Marriage, and more.

We return to Ft. Smith, Arkansas this week. We open with a man breaking into the home of an elderly woman, and then beating and raping her, but would survive. Several months later, another elderly woman is raped and murdered. The crimes are virtually identical, meaning that police have a serial rapist on their hands.

We conclude this week's show with our spoiler-filled thoughts on Midnight Mass.

For the first time ever, it's the second part of a two-part episode! It's also the finale. Last week we concluded with James Waybern "Red" Hall agreeing to confess to being the Arkansas Hitchhike Killer, along with the murder of his wife, Fay. We continue from there, going through Red's accounts on every murder, perhaps with some surprises along the way, and then go through his trial.

In the post-show, Andrew finishes Adventure Time, is watching the What We Do in the Shadows TV series, and playing Metroid. Caitlin is listening to Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman, and recounts her recent trip to the Arkansas Scottish Festival where she makes a dubious purchase for her nephew.

For the first time ever, we're doing a two-parter! Don't tell Caitlin, she doesn't know. We're following the life and times and crimes of James Waybern "Red" Hall. Red suffered a traumatic head injury as a youngster and started to exhibit odd behavior. Eventually, Red outgrew his surroundings and started traveling America by hitchhiking. He even got married and had a child, but would still disappear at months at a time. What was he up to?

The post-show is shorter than normal because we just talk about so much and so many. Andrew tries to stop being such a coward and starts the Resident Evil 2 remake. Caitlin ended Halloween because she already watched Hocus Pocus. Did she also summon real demons via D&D?

No. Obviously not. Don't be stupid.

In March of 2013, 14-year-old Sidney Nicole Randall went missing from her home in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas. Also missing was her stepfather, John. Except then John returned with Sidney still missing, and so the search for the young girl began.

Afterwards, Andrew talks about how wrestlers are the worst, Shin Godzilla rules, and the Forgotten City. Caitlin hates anime, almost liked the Nevers, and more!

In November of 2014, two-year-old, Malik Drummond wandered away from his home in Searcy, Arkansas. A massive search ensued, involving over 400 volunteers. The search yielded no results and eventually the FBI offered a $20,000 reward. Just over a year after Malik's disappearance, the truth made itself known.

Caitlin talks about the impact that former A-State professor, Joe Bonner had on her life, and who sadly passed away recently.

Andrew talks about watching Super Sentai shows, which is what would eventually become Power Rangers in the US. These things are very different.

Ebby Jane Steppach had dreams of going to cosmetology school. In 2015 she went missing, kicking off a sad story of that calls into question the investigative qualifications of police in Arkansas' One True City.

There is a $10,000 reward for information. Call 501-404-3128 if you know something.

We talk VERY briefly about COVID. Please get vaccinated. Andrew is the laziest person ever and got vaccinated. It's that easy.

In the nonsense part, we talk a bit about THE Suicide Squad, Andrew forces us into talking about wrestling (the truest form of art) because CM Punk is BACK baybay! Caitlin loves Coke + Coffee while Andrew thinks it's vile. She also loves a new kit-kat and has news about glasses. Andrew can't relate as a person with eyes that natural selection shed its blessings upon.

We talk more about volcanoes than you would think. Geology is NOT biology. Geology is also not paleontology. We talk more about that Rasputina song than anybody has ever talked.

Splitgate = Halo + Portal and that seems neat.

We freak out about noises. As far as Andrew can tell they didn't translate to the actual recording.

Marcel Wayne Williams grew up in a broken home, leading to a broken life. He went to adult prison when he was only 15 years old where he would suffer physical and sexual violence. In 1994, he would be released and then kidnap, rape, and murder Stacy Rae Errickson. Williams would become one of the four people that the state of Arkansas hastily executed when their supply of the drug midazolam was expiring.

Caitlin then tells us her stories from Florida and Andrew goes back to his childhood.

This week we talk about one of the most interesting people we've covered, Bass Reeves. Born a slave, he eventually got his freedom by escaping to Indian Territory before the end of the American Civil War. Eventually he would move to Ft. Smith, Arkansas where he would become the first black deputy west of the Mississippi. During his time rounding up outlaws, he would go on to have a legendary career.

Caitlin got engaged! She also tells us about some medical stuff and that time she got a sound bath and all of the great sleep she got. Andrew stopped depressing himself with dark films by playing a very hard video game which seem counterintuitive. He also tries to convince Caitlin to watch Garth Marenghi's Darkplace with poor results, but does get her interested in fantasy series Earthsea. We also discuss the Loki finale.

Ted Throneberry left his job to head home and was never heard from again. When police investigated, they found that his wife, Anne, was also nowhere to be found. The last two people known to have been at the Throneberry home were two men who had recently moved into the mountains, Mark Holsombach and Billy Frazier, who lived without running water and electricity in a small shack.

How Many Star Warses continues, Andrew finishes Breath of the Wild, Caitlin's back on Adventure Time, and we talk more in-depth about Bo Burnham's Inside.
