Paintin' Korners: Menace 2 Baseball and the MLB

The Toronto Blue Jays made headlines late last night as they signed first baseman Vlad Guerrero Jr to a MASSIVE 14-year, $500 million extension. The four-time all star has been one of baseball's best hitters over the last 5 years and was set to be a free agent at the conclusion of the 2025 season. If the Blue Jays had been sellers at the deadline, Vladdy would've been undoubtedly the most coveted player among contenders. Now, that's off the table as the Blue Jays made Guerrero the third highest paid player in MLB history behind Shohei Ohtani and Juan Soto. How does this move impact teams such as division rival New York Yankees? Also - we discuss the weekend series for both the Yankees and Cleveland Guardians as well as preview the upcoming series for both clubs. Can the Yankees survive a tough road series against reigning Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal and the Detroit Tigers? Can the Guardians snap out of their current offensive funk against the lowly Chicago White Sox? Let us know in the comments!

The New York Yankees and Cleveland Guardians are each dealing with their first real "slump" of the 2025 MLB campaign. The Guardians just got swept by the undefeated San Diego Padres while the Yankees are in danger of getting swept by the Arizona Diamondbacks later tonight. Time to overreact and figure out what's going with each ball club and what can be done to fix it.

The New York Yankees stole the show during MLB's opening weekend, tying the major league record with 15 home runs during their first three games of the season, including a franchise record NINE on Saturday alone. Aaron Judge led the way with four long balls over the weekend, but the rest of the lineup all brought the lumber as well. New lumber, that is, in the form of the 'torpedo bat' that has taken the league by storm. It's the latest analytical development in a sport that has become driven by science and engulfed with advanced metrics. Today on Paintin' Korners we break down the impact that the new 'torpedo bat' has on the game, and what the pros and cons are with using it. Plus, we take a deep dive into the Cleveland Guardian and Yankees opening series victories, discusing what surprised us, where are some areas of concern, and potential breakout stars for both.

Today on Paintin' Korners, Kris and Pat dive into their first divisional preview of the 2025 MLB season: the AL Central. This division is arguably the hardest to predict heading into Opening Day. While the Cleveland Guardians are the defending champs in this division, they currently have the 4th best odds to repeat. The Minnesota Twins are the preseason favorites to take back the division crown, highlighted by a thumping lineup featuring Carlos Correa and Royce Lewis. But don't sleep on the Detroit Tigers or Kansas City Royals either, who are both coming off of ALDS appearances a year ago. Each have young, budding stars on their rosters as well, in reigning Cy Young award winner Tarik Skubal for Detroit and the current betting favorite to win AL MVP in Bobby Witt Jr for Kansas City.
