    Talked with Fatima, Jeff and Lucy from the Florida Native Plant Society. They are a non-profit that is dedicated to educating/promoting the preservation, conservation and restoration of native plants in Florida. The native plants thrive better, use less water and make more sense economically. They also help restore the food chain by encouraging the butterflies, bees, insects that are a necessary part of the food chain.     Talked w Linda Birdsey and Ashley Douglass, from the Kravis Center. They are starting their 2019/2020 season with lots of great shows including Fiddler on the Roof, Come From Away, Hamilton, Dave Koz, Roger Waters, A Funny Thing Happened on the way to the Forum, The Play that goes Wrong, and Gilberto Santa Rosa Amor de Los Amores Tour. Their mission is to provide enrichment through arts to the community. They have multiple venues: Perrson Hall, Rinker and Dreyfus.   • PB PERS IRL Science FestivalREV
    Talked with Natalie Frendberg, Education Coor, Oxbow Eco-Center and Communications Chair, Indian River Lagoon Science Festival. This is their 6th annual IRL Science Festival. It's happening downtown Ft. Pierce on Saturday, October 26th starting at 10am. They will have over 80 exhibitors including, FAU Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute, Smithsonian Marine Station, and well as entertainment from a drum line and step group. One of the really cool events is the parade. The procession of the species (outfits are made from upcycled items). Listeners can also go to a behind the scenes tour of FAU Harbor Branch on Wednesday, October 23rd at 10am as part of the pre-festival activities. Art After Dark on Friday October 4th features the opening exhibition: The Body Says, I Am a Fiesta: The Figure in Latin American Art. Then they are having their first LatinX Community Day on Saturday, October 5th. It's a free event from Noon - 5p and will be featuring music by Kuyayky, Pepe Montes y Su Conjunto plus tours, mini book + art, short films and dance troupe Esencia de Broiken with percussion ensemble Pedro Vilanova and Tamboricua.     Talked with Alexia Savage, Sr VP Communications & Resource Development, United Way PBC. The United Way of Palm Beach County works closely with 211 to help connect people with necessary services. They work has a "Hub/Umbrella" agency funding/coordinating with a host of charities/services in the county. United Way is helping with funding for the folks in the Bahamas and with Bahamian citizens who've come to PBC get assistance. They're also launching a new initiative called Mission United to address the needs of the 80,000 military veterans in our county.     Talked with Melissa and Michael about the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America. A lot of people haven't heard of MG. What is myasthenia gravis (MG)? According to their website:
    Myasthenia gravis (pronounced My-as-theen-ee-a grav-us) comes from the Greek and Latin words meaning "grave muscular weakness." The most common form of MG is a chronic autoimmune neuromuscular disorder that is characterized by fluctuating weakness of the voluntary muscle groups. The website has a wealth of information for patients, caregivers, medical professionals and volunteers.     Talked with Rob Ranieri, CEO, House of Hope and Kelly Johnson, VP, R.V. Johnson Insurance about House of Hope. It's a charity that serves residents of Martin County. House of Hope provides food, clothing, furniture, financial aide, information/referral, classes, and case management services to Martin County residents in need. They have some great local nutrition gardens that help teach about food/nutrition as well as provide food to local soup kitchens/clients. They also have an agricultural and vocational farm that produces food while teaching basics of gardening. Volunteers are always welcome. Kelly's company volunteers as a group - simply go to www.hohmartin.org and click on the volunteer tab to sign up. All their programs and events are listed there as well.

  • PB PERS George Snow Scholarship Fund
    Talked with Tim Snow about the scholarship fund they created in honor of his father, George. Their website says it best with this quote, "What began as a memorial to one philanthropic and devoted man has become a community asset— a family of individuals, corporations, private foundations, and community service organizations who share the belief that education is the key to a better life for the young people we serve". They are helping seniors in Palm Beach and North Broward County with assistance in pursuing higher education. To help raise money, they do cool fundraisers and their big one is coming up on September 20th and the Boca Raton Resort and Club.
