Chef Zach and Denise came in to talk about Share Our Strength's awesome fundraiser that's coming up on April 4th at the Kravis called Palm Beach's Taste of the Nation. It's a great opportunity for listeners to come try out bites, nibbles, wine, cocktails, craft beer/ciders and coffees while raising money for a great cause. There are Chefs from 50 of the best local restaurants showcasing what they do. Plus silent and live auctions which includes the opportunity to win a "wine cave's" worth of wine complete with wine fridge, Listeners can get tickets by going to https://events.nokidhungry.org/events/palm-beach-taste-nation/ and also, find out about volunteer/sponsorship opportunites while there. Marge and Vanessa from Palm Health Foundation came in to talk about their community initiative to get people physically active for 30 minutes a day. They have a "LET'S MOVE: COMMIT TO CHANGE PHYSICAL ACTIVITY CHALLENGE" that's going on through 3/31. Listeners can sign up and log their minutes on the website. And they encourage listeners to keep moving for 30 minutes a day all year long. Studies have shown lots of health benefits from being physically active every day.     Talked with Randy Scheid from Quantum Foundation and James Gavrilos from the Education Foundation. Quantum is the foundation created from the proceeds of JFK sale and they fund multiple non-profits in the county with focus on Health issues. Groups can apply online for a grant and Quantum does quarterly reviews. Charities can go to www.quantumfnd.org for more info. The Education Foundation is one of the recipients of a grant this year. They are the fundraising/non-profit arm of the PBC county schools. This grant is for medical simulators for students in the healthcare/medical programs. They actually have models that simulate different illness/disease to help the students get hands on training.   • PB PERS PBC Crime Prevention Offices Assoc
    Talked with Officer William Dames, President and Officer Seth Buxton, Member of Palm Beach County Crime Prevention Officers Association. They do presentations to groups/companies/HOAs about public safety and basic tips/steps to take during an active shooter situation. Listeners need to be aware of their surroundings (not looking down at their cell phones), note where exits are located when you go somewhere. If someone is acting in an unusual manner, take note. Also, if a co-workers changes their dress, behavior it can be a sign that something is bothering them. They suggest talking with your company and making a plan in case of an emergency. Steps are run, hide or fight. If you can get out of the area run is the best option (pick a meet up location ahead of time). Also, in PBC you can use your cell phone to text 911 in case you need to hide. Lock the door, turn out lights, turn phone on silent. hide under desk and text 911 your situation/location. If you need to fight, commit 100% and fight. In an active shooter situation, law enforcement will first address/remove the threat/shooter and then assist anyone who may have been injured.     RELAY FOR LIFE OF WESTERN PALM BEACH COUNTY and is happening at the South Florida Fairgrounds. The next one is 4/6 Relay for Life Southern Palm Beach County and then 4/13 Relay for Life Northern Palm Beach.   • PB PERS Artist Intensive Kravis
    Jackie and Jason Gillman, Founders of The Broadway Artists Intensive at the Kravis Center. The Kravis center offers a variety of arts education programs. Since 1992, 2.5 million schoolchildren from Palm Beach, Broward, Martin, St. Lucie and Okeechobee counties have visited the Kravis Center, by attending performances through eh S*T*A*R* Series or participating in one of their educational programs. Jackie and Jason created several of their educational programs. The Broadway Artist Intensive Junior (1 week during the summer age 9-13) and The Broadway Artists Intensive (3 weeks during the summer). The Junior session is from June 24-28 and no audition is required. The Intensive is 3 weeks from July 8-27 age 14-21, Auditions are required (video auditions are okay).   • PB PERS BAM Festival
    Talked with Jennifer McQuown, Youth Services Manager, Mandel Public Library of West Palm Beach. They are hosting the annual BAM Festival (Books, Arts and Music) coming up on March 2nd. Their mission is to provide a great literary experience for all of South Florida by bringing together authors, artists and musicians with the members of the community to share their love of B.A.M. The 400 block of Clematis will be closed and there will be artists and music on the street level. They have a very dense schedule of author presentations starting at 10am in various locations.     Talked with Liz Schmidt, Director of Community Water Safety and Clairissa Myatt, Marketing Communications Coordinator, YMCA of South Palm Beach County. They are getting ready for their 17th Annual Inspiration Breakfast. It's their largest fundraiser and will be held on Wednesday, March 6th at the Office Depot Global Headquarters in Boca Raton at 7:30am. This years keynote speaker is Five-time Olympic swimmer and 12-time medalist, Dara Torres. There are some tables still available. The funds raised this year will go to the Y's programs for Drowning Prevention initiatives and financial assistance program.     Talked with Scott Benarde, Mariela Acuna and Glenn Tomlinson from the Norton Museum of Art. They've just reopened after finishing their expansion and have a lot of great programs coming. One of the new things is they've moved Art After Dark from Thursday to Friday night from 5pm-10pm and the restaurant will be open late for fun "Date Nights". The first one will be Friday February 15th and feature guest speaker, Pulitzer Prize winner, Hilton Als. And then on Feburary 22nd's Art After Dark, the band, InHouse, will be doing at 20th Anniversary Reunion Concert. Another new Feature is The Women's Walk located on Cranesnest Way on the South edge of the campus. Listeners can text 56512 to hear a guided tour.   • PB PERS Intl Kinetic Art Symposium
    Talked with Elayna Toby Singer, People's Choice Award Winner, International Kinetic Art Exhibit and Symposium and Elizabeth Dashiell, Palm Beach PR about the upcoming symposium. It's going to be February 2-3 in Boynton Beach, with VIP event Friday night February 1st. They will have outdoor and indoor exhibits and weekend Kinetic Art experiences. There are self-guided tours with docents available along the route, and an Otocast App where artists talk about their kinetic artwork. ASL Interpreted tours begin at 2 pm both days at the Exhibition Test. Listeners can sign up to participate in Elayna's "Moving Toward Balance" make and take art experience. She will be helping participants set their intentions to help protect native trees, and help restore balance to our environment and find balance in their lives, by teaching them to create a "balanced" mobile made up of Florida Mahogany seed pods.
