Yoeke Nagel is a journalist and author from The Netherlands. In this book Yoeke tells the story, quilted together over decades of research, of her Grandmother Jeanne van Emden, a member of the Dutch Resistance during WWII. This is the story of Yoeke’s family who were persecuted by Nazis; of a courageous woman, and her children, who lived, and about some who didn’t come back from the camps.

Searching is an engaging read, a collection of memories and information woven together into one story. The writing is really good, as is the English translation (the book was written in Dutch).

Searching is also a powerful message for all people now, as we see fascism rising, leaders who are similar to those that drove the fascism of the early 20th century, and the need for courage and resistance.

Phil Hewitt is a journalist and a marathon runner. In 2016 Phil was stabbed and nearly died. Phil’s new book Outrunning the Demons is a collection of vignettes, accounts of people who have faced a trauma of one sort or another ranging from illness to political oppression to sexual assault, and more, who have found healing through running.

Along with Joe Gelini, Joe Maize, Thaddeus “Peanut” Ramsey, Ari Teitel and Clifton “Spug” Smith, they are Cha Wa. Their new Grammy nominated album is Spyboy.

Jim Roberts is a percussionist, producer, artist and educator who resides in Chapel Hill, NC, USA. He’s been banging on things since he was a baby beating on pots and pans. Now he’s bringing different kinds of percussion music together with various genres of music to create new music.

In 2018 Jim released an album called The Tao of Time which is a journey, a story, a sonic adventure. This album is fun, funny, beautiful, and ultimately elucidating.
