“Beloved is a 4-Day Sacred Art, Movement, and Music Festival on the Oregon Coast. Beloved is a healing event, intended to experiment with new models for culture.
In the troubled times in which we live, people become divided against each other and can more easily feel isolated and separated from the Soul of the World. At Beloved, we become a sudden, mystical community where everyone can feel the touch of spirit while also deepening the soul of community.”

June 28, 1969, New York City, the Stonewall Inn was the scene of what is known as The Stonewall Uprising. Considered a watershed event for Gay Liberation, and for LGBTQ rights, these events are commemorated and celebrated in cities and countrysides around the world, every June, in Pride marches and activities. While some question why LGBTQ people celebrate Pride, one answer is this; until the playing field is level for people of all sexual and gender identities and variations, it is necessary to celebrate Pride.
June 8, 2019, Detroit Michigan, a group of armed white supremacist terrorists attempted, and failed, to incite violence at Pride events. That was their stated intent. They marched under a swastika flag. In this episode of Paradigms Baruch talks with four people who were present at Detroit Pride, including one person who witnessed the aforementioned.
What can we learn from this? Are police siding with fascists when they protect them? What are effective ways for communities to respond to fascist provocateurs?

“5 Soldiers” is a very powerful dance piece that examines the role of the soldier’s body as a tool of war, from strength, resilience, and vulnerability, to wounding and destruction, and all that lies between.
Rosie Kay, who created this very significant work shares her story and inspiration with Baruch. Rosie discusses what this artistic creation means to her, and how it has been received (enthusiastically!) by soldiers and military brass alike in the UK and now in the US.
This interview, and this dance piece, regardless of your politics, will touch you and humanize militarism and war, which allows for re-evaluation, new perspectives, learning, and hopefully, healing.
