ParaScience

Our investigators have snuck on board the illustrious and antiquated Queen Mary through some simple white lies. Saint Garcia Flores, ever an honest exorcist finds himself collaborating on a cover story with a federal agent and a bigfoot conspiracy hermit, all for the chance to see a new ghost aboard this haunted old vessel.

I’d like to take you to Long Beach, California, just as autumn is beginning to fade. The air and ocean are indistinguishably grey and paint a bright canvas against the ocean liners docked in Long Beach Harbor. There are many ships floating here on the peninsula - some are only sleeping until summer, but only the Queen Mary is dead in the water - stationary and rusted. It is decidedly not tourist season. And yet there are plenty of cars parked here on the dock - surrounded by sleeping giants.

ParaScience is an actual play, paranormal horror podcast told through Cortex. It is Game Mastered by the disembodied mind of Ben Hamlin with Ezra Kaye as Man in Black Alister McAndrews, Matty Trumbo-Gomes as agnostic exorcist Saint Garcia Flores and Nikki Boylan as conspiracy theorist Jules Ortiz! With a logo by cryptic Terra Bosart and theme by the ethereal Johnny Rinaldo!

The sun is starting to set in Long Beach and the party onboard is just getting started. Whatever gathering is happening on board - our investigators weren’t invited. Does explore the shifting non-realities of the world include lying to a well-meaning concierge?

After their encounter with the strange, psychic plant in the depths of Walla Walla, Washington, our three investigators have formed a tentative alliance and friendship in the face of what they witnessed together. Now Allister has places to be as part of his day job, and there’s no better assistance than a motorcyclist with an ear to the undead and a hermit with a bit of paranoid muscle and a gun.

Chapter One of ParaScience has come to a close. Our heroes, who are only slightly more trusting of each than when they met, are being called to Long Beach California. Before we start the next page of our story, Matty, Ezra, Ben and Nik sit down to talk about the decisions they made as the as players, how they created their characters, what gross horror trope chapter one was almost about and how everyone (except Ezra) got into horror in the first place!

Plus hear the nightmare that inspired the monster in the woods!

When you turn the corner into this dim and eerie chamber, you find yourself overwhelmed by a pulsing light. A formless frothing light that fills the chamber and gleams across every inch of your being. Pulsing shifting light that it is indescribable in every possible way and in the dim caverns of this underground chamber: it illuminates absolutely nothing.

Illuminating nothing but the part of your mind that SCREAMS at you: come closer. Come closer.

But there is a man in your way.

Death comes for us all in time - and the temporary residents of the Swaying Birch retirement community know that more than anyone. Even so, it seems that two lives have been cut short before their timely end. And It’s becoming increasingly clear that whatever claimed the souls of George Sampson and Morgan Carmichael is at the end of this long, dark mouth. And two word drip off the foul tongue of dark water that flows from this tunnel. “Come” “Eat”

We turn now to our players and the fate ahead of them in this long dark tunnel.

”Go to the Woods,” urges the ghost..

”Go to the Woods,” clatter the puppets..

”Go to the Woods,” chants Saint’s brain..

What mental monster is hiding deep within the Walla Walla Woods? We return now to Jules and Allister behind a chain link fence deep in the woods outside the Swaying Birch Retirement Community.

There is a dark compulsion in the back of our heroes’ minds that is drawing them deeper and deeper into the endless woods ahead of them. There is something alluring about the phantom that appeared before them, however briefly. Just when they seem to be making progress through this ethereal glen, a horrifying scream jerks Saint out of his daze and back into the arms of safety… or is it just another danger inside Unit 584?
