As the USA breaks out once again into civil unrest over the death of George Floyd, an unarmed black man, at the hands of police, you may be seeing people online say that Trump's Republican Party has always been on the side of black Americans; after all, they're the "Party of Lincoln." Simultaneously, it is true that the Democratic Party was the party of the South, of Jim Crow laws, of lynching and oppression. This just doesn't make sense given what we know about politics today.
