Part One: Guest Interview
Gloria, founder of The Parent Coaching Institute (PCI) and author of Parenting Well in a Media Age, talks with PCI Coach Angie Poulos. Angie has over 30 years experience as a Montessori teacher and brings that amazing background to her parent coaching practice at her company, Poulos Parent Coaching. As a mom of six children, including a set of twins and grandmother of six grandchildren, Angie brings a wealth of personal, as well as professional experience to this topic, too!
Our conversation today is grounded in Montessori’s viewpoint that the appropriate environment with the appropriate stimulation needed to enrich the child’s development will, in fact, support the child’s healthy self-identity.
Angie states:
“Yes, we are constantly learning of potential dangers with young children and the media/digital toys, etc. but what can parents do? “To be nobody-but-yourself in a world which is doing it’s best, night and day, to make you everybody else means to fight the hardest battle which any human being can fight, and never stop fighting.” EE Cummings. I have faith that all parents possess the capabilities of enjoying the company of their children without giving in to digital toys. They just forgot how kids think. Let’s focus on ways parents can provide a healthy and stimulating environment for their young children and have fun doing it. I am dedicated to helping each child reach his/her highest potential by supporting good parenting. My experience teaching Montessori school for over 30 years and working with hundreds of children is a rich and solid base that helps me in my parent coaching practice.”
