  • E42: How Bryce is Benefiting from Music Therapy

This episode is a discussion of how we have seen Bryce benefit from Music Therapy that we started five months ago. His anxiety has greatly decreased while his interest for creative activities has increased. He wants to listen to more music and play instruments at home now. He is singing lyrics and learning new words from songs. We describe a typical solo session as well as his group sessions. We have seen SO MANY POSITIVE RESULTS that we wanted to dedicate an episode to the topic in case other families are considering it.

We also bring everyone up to speed on new developments in our little family from the past two weeks. Bryce continues to be on a "brain growth spurt" which has us bursting with joy and amazement! We know this journey pretty much revolves around Bryce's timing, and we are so happy for all the progress he continues to make each day. His joy and happiness seems to be on a higher level now that he is able to verbally express more thoughts, ask more questions, and state more opinions. It's a beautiful thing!

Bryce is a funny, mechanical, HAPPY little guy who was diagnosed with autism at age two and is now six years old. His pure joy makes this world a much better place!

We also feel called to bring light to a community that has experienced dark days after the "diagnosis". (Luke 1:79)

  • E41: Rediscovering Ways to De-Stress

This episode is a discussion of how we are rediscovering ways to reconnect with past passions that we individually enjoy but haven't been able to do much since Bryce's diagnosis. We also talk about the changes the past couple of weeks and how we are managing our little family during the COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic.

We hope that this discussion may spark some ideas for each of you to reconnect to now or after this pandemic passes us by ... We would like to play tennis again but our courts are closed. BUT we can play our instruments and carve out time for reading books or watching a favorite movie in our quiet time.

  • E36: "Finding the Right Source of Education" with guest Kristine Erice-Saxton

Bryce is a funny, mechanical, HAPPY little guy who was diagnosed with autism at age two and is now six years old. His pure joy makes this world a much better place!

In this episode, our guest is Kristine Erice-Saxton, a dear friend and fellow autism parent. We met when Bryce was three and her son, Dylan, was ten. She has been a God-send and an incredible source of inspiration, wisdom, and kindness. She and her husband, Matt, have huge hearts for our local autism community and just opened a school in our home town of Port St. Lucie, FL. Their school, Exceptional Academy for Differently-Abled Learners, has provided a place of acceptance and tailored education that is a challenge to find in our area.

We talk about the difficult decision of choosing the right path for education when your child has autism. Homeschool? Public School? Private School? There's no definitive answer other than finding the place where your child will thrive most with the right support and education tools. We hope you will find value in this episode if you are now planning for Kindergarten or are having a current struggle with your school situation. You can learn more about Kristine and Matt's school at www.exceptionalacademypsl.com.

  • E35: We Have Language - Will We Have Conversations?

Bryce is a funny, mechanical, HAPPY little guy who was diagnosed with autism at age two and is now six years old. His pure joy makes this world a much better place!

In this episode, we begin with Bryce assisting with the intro. Although he has no idea that he has autism or that he has some beautiful differences from many others, he loves the podcast and will ask Google to play it. He now wants to participate in the recording. We took the opportunity to let our listeners hear how Bryce tries so hard to have conversations. He mimic. He will bring up a topic to others with no introduction, so they are confused - but he TRIES so hard! We also asked him some random questions to see if he could answer them correctly. He actually did really well but quickly cut out - and now he has told me to stop asking questions this past week because he did NOT like me asking him questions that were not pre-programmed for easy answers. We talk about Bryce's progress with language, comprehension, and how we can help him develop more in these areas. We also share a some recent highlights, including a fun-filled trip to the MOSI Science Museum in Tampa, FL.

NOTE: I mixed up "sympathy" and "empathy" in the podcast, but you'll know what I mean. ☺ Some people can be sympathetic and feel sorry about your situation while others can be empathetic because they can relate from personal experience.
