How do we make sense of the information we are surrounded by when it’s so divisive, polarizing and confusing? What if we have fallen victim to disinformation and we feel embarrassed that we did? How do we teach our kids the truth if we don’t even know what’s fact or fiction?
My guest is the author of the book, What the Fact and is a medical doctor, journalist, epidemiologist and professor at UCLA so Dr. Seema Yasmin, knows what she’s talking about. Seema is a self-described “former” conspiracy theorist, who is helping us to understand the difference between misinformation and disinformation and how to get to the bottom to find the truth.
What I love about my conversation with Seema is that she understands that disinformation is meant to exploit our fear and she meets that with empathy and understanding (because she’s fallen victim to it too). She also explains how our brains work to seek out information and that can make us fall victim to disinformation, hoaxes and conspiracy theories.
In this episode we also talk about how to discuss differing views with others and have disagreements in a productive way - yes! It's possible!
We all hate being lied to and manipulated and at the same time, we want to be heard! Listening to this episode will help you really understand what’s happening and how you can spot BS (Hint: There is actually a 10-step recipe for disinformation!)
For Dr. Seema’s Key Takeaways: Ten Media Literacy Lessons from What the Fact?!, head to the Parent Toolbox. www.parent-toolbox.com

READY FOR YOUR FAMILY CHECK UP CALL? If you’re feeling burnt out by bad behavior, worn down from constant battles and bickering and you’ve struggled to get the cooperation, respect and obedience you want from your kids, I’ve been there too. It might be time to learn new tools (that you’ve never been taught) to help you get your kids to listen to you, build teamwork, and grow the harmony in your home....
No parent looks forward to “The Talk” with their kids! We would rather talk about their mental, physical and emotional development instead of their sexual development!! The truth is that when kids view the topic of sex as normal, not weird or secret, they are more likely to feel better about who they are as a person and make better decisions.
My guest, Amy Lang has made a career out of helping parents have The Talk with your kids; which by the way, isn’t just ONE talk! She helps to normalize it and will help you to know exactly what to say.
Our sex drive is a very strong drive (I know you know) and ignoring it doesn’t serve your children. We don’t want them to go to pornography or the playground for answers. WE want to communicate sex and sexual identity because (believe it or not) we have the most influence over their decision making.
In this episode we talk about:

I honour each parent and their path towards becoming the best parent they can be. My hope is to inspire more parents to consider the practice of Peaceful Parenting.
If...
It’s so important to understand that we all feel fear and anxiety. Fear is meant to protect us and keep us safe so when our kids are scared, we need to reassure them that it’s normal and natural. We want to honour their feeling but we also want them to know that they can manage their fears and control their unhelpful thoughts. This helps kids feel more confident and that leads to higher resilience.
Christina Furnival is returning to my show for the second time to talk us through how to teach kids how to deal with their fear and anxiety!
In our conversation we talk about:
What to do when our child brings up their fears (and what not to do)
How our kids are always looking to us to learn how to act, think and what to say
How fears change as kids get older and what is age appropriate
We talked about a grounding exercise you can use for yourself or your child when you’re feeling anxious. Use the instructions below to name:
5 things you can see
4 things you can feel
3 things you can hear
2 things you can smell
1 thing you can taste

Climate change is on all of our minds and it’s hard not to feel overwhelmed, depressed and helpless about the state of the planet…but you don’t have to feel that way anymore!
I’m super pumped to talk and introduce my guests and co-founders of The Cool Down (www.thecooldown.com) Anna Robertson and Nina Tooly. These moms have gone from sharing green product recommendations with each other to building The Cool Down, a climate content and commerce startup that's working to take the overwhelm out of climate topics and promote accessible sustainability.
When we become parents, we look at the world differently and we want to make sure we preserve it for our children, their children and all future generations. I’ve been overwhelmed with what I can do in my own life to create positive change and make sustainable choices so having a tool in my back pocket like The Cool Down is such a game changer.
What I love about Amy and Nina’s work and message is that it’s based in positivity, and empowerment. They are sharing easy sustainable swaps for the products you are already using AND most importantly, they are vetting them and they aren’t more expensive than what you’re already paying! BONUS!!
They also share GOOD NEWS stories about climate every single week and have just launched a new Instagram account for those of us who love green products! Follow them on Instagram @greenproductguide
To make things even easier for parents, Anna and Nina are giving us a guide, “How Parents Can Lead the Way in Shaping a Cooler, Cleaner Future,” you can download it from the Parent Toolbox. www.parent-toolbox.com

If you have a child with ADHD, chances are, your child’s behavior has changed the way you thought your family would be together. ADHD can cause a child to have severe tantrums, intense hyperactivity, uncontrollable impulsivity and can toggle between lack of focus and intense focus.
It turns out there is a huge connection between certain foods and inflammation that can greatly increase and intensify ADHD behaviors. Many of us have heard about the brain-gut connection but this is the first time I’m learning about it as it relates to ADHD.
I’m hanging off every word of my guest, Dana Kay, who since her son’s diagnosis, has dedicated her life to helping her son and other families regain the calm and harmony in their homes by managing ADHD in a different way.
This episode left me feeling frustrated and angry because the things I learned about ADHD from Dana have never been brought up to me by any medical professionals for the 15+ years we’ve been trying to find answers to help with my son’s intense behaviors and big emotions brought on by ADHD. I know many of you feel the same way.
In this episode, we talk about:
How to build a solid nutritional foundation for the body
How reducing inflammation is key to lessening symptoms
Why certain foods are so detrimental
What ADHD kids need to eat more of
Hidden stressors in your child’s body and how to find out what they are
This is one of the most important conversations I’ve had on my podcast and I hope you’ll listen and try some of Dana’s recommendations. My family will be doing it right along with you!

Dana has been featured in Forbes, Authority Magazine, Medium, Influencive, Thrive Global, and various others. She has also been a guest on multiple parenting and ADHD summits and podcasts. Her mission is to help families reduce ADHD symptoms naturally so that children with ADHD can thrive at home, at school, and in life.

FREE GUIDE FOR PARENTS OF...
There are MILLIONS of kids with food allergies in the US, and in Canada, 1 in 2 households are impacted by food allergies. This is a huge topic and I’m thrilled to have one of the foremost experts, Dr. Rania Nasis, on to talk about what allergies are, and what we can do to support kids with allergies and their parents.
In this episode, Rania and I talk about the basics of allergies and what qualifies as an allergy - it’s an immune response to the food that’s life threatening. We also talk about the difference between allergies and sensitivities.
Food allergies are on the rise and there are actually ways you can prevent them. A 2015 study concluded that introducing food allergens earlier in a child’s life can prevent severe allergies.
The reality is, that if you have a child with allergies, you face added stress, worry and work to keep them safe. As a community, we all need to be a part of the solution and normalize food allergies so our kids don’t feel excluded because of their differences. With the holidays upon us, there are lots of opportunities to do things differently so everyone feels included.

If you know...
What if you have worked for 20 years to get your dream job, at the top of your field, only to realize the hustle, 12-hour days, and big paycheque aren’t what you ever wanted. This is what my guest, Jamie Fiore Higgins, lived. She didn’t just have the hustle, she also endured a toxic workplace where she was expected to tolerate misogynistic comments, harassment, exclusion and physical abuse.
In this episode, Jamie and I talk about being professional women in the workplace and how there is still a lot companies need to do to change their culture to include diversity, flexibility and transparency if they want to attract and retain the best talent; of whom women are a major part of. In fact, women are often held back because they are mothers but what makes them a great mom, makes them great leaders!
Women bring to the workforce stills that benefit the workplace like being better at multitasking, listening, conflict resolution, and empathy, compared to their male counterparts.
Jamie is inviting women to take a step back and look at their work and workplace through the lens of their values and what they really want in their lives. Sometimes we work so hard, we don’t realize that WE aren’t happy and the only one we are letting down is ourselves.
Why does this even matter? Because our kids are watching and we’re modeling for them what’s ok and what’s not. Gen Z is looking at us being mistreated and saying a big “Oh Hell NO! I’m not going to work in an environment or for a boss like that!”
To help us navigate this, Jamie has prepared a “self-assessment” document to help you determine what you really want in your life and how to start to make the small changes to get you there!
For Jamie’s career self-assessment document, you can download it from the Parent Toolbox. www.parent-toolbox.com

How many times have you said to your child, “how was your day?” only to be met with one-word answers or grunts? Well, we are aiming to end that, so you can have meaningful conversations with your kids now, and always!
My guest is Rebecca Rolland who has over a decade of experience in speech and language and is a mom to two, so she understands how hard having, starting and sustaining conversation can be with your kids.
The most important lessons I learned from Rebecca is to give “silent time” to give your kids the space to speak, be specific in your questions, listen to them when they speak, notice when they do talk, what they like to talk about and be curious.
In this episode, we’ve packed it full of information on:
Why it’s so hard to talk to kids?
How do we get them to talk about their day?
What do we do if they don’t want to talk?
How do we talk to our teen?
How to have hard conversations, and so much more!
Rebecca has so many wonderful suggestions on conversation and that also includes self-compassion for US AS PARENTS because we aren’t perfect at this, and that’s ok! to help us, Rebecca has a handout on conversation starters
