As if it isn’t hard enough to enter adolescence with hormones, growth spurts, hair in new places and ACNE! The first question my guest, Dr. Yug Varma, was WHY!? Why does it happen and why does it coincide with adolescence?
Dr. Varma has over 10 years of microbiome research experience and has uncovered a bacteriophage (a type of virus that infects bacteria - literally a bacteria eater) that’s found on clear skin but is absent on acne-infected skin. His product Phyla, introduces the bacteriophage, to acne prone skin to eliminate it.
I thought it was important to cover this topic because I know so many parents worry about their kids and the social anxiety that comes from having acne. Acne is a chronic condition that is affecting people for longer, even into their thirties. The traditional methods use antibacterial and antibiotics to clear the skin but they aren’t meant for long term use, have many side effects and kill both good and bad bacteria. Phyla, a natural product, eliminates acne with zero side effects and without the use of antibiotics.
In this episode, Dr. Varma and I talk about: What causes acne (and should we squeeze that zit!) Why do some people have acne and why some don’t What the microbiome reveals about acne How traditional approaches to acne treatment can cause more harm
For a 10% discount on your order of Phyla, and more information on acne prevention, visit the Parent Toolbox. www.parent-toolbox.com

Gary’s foundation is based on situational awareness: how people should act, reading the environment, identifying problems, knowing your options, and reinforcement through visualisation.
Gary and I talk about how to keep our teens safe in today’s ever-changing world - as a parent, it’s hard to keep up! Gary shares such wisdom in an easy-to-understand way, and well, I love listening to him because he has a great accent!
In this episode we talk about these important issues:
Understanding the risks teens face: online safety, school violence, exploitation
Challenges that “pre-drivers licence teens” face: being home alone, being safe at malls movies and parks, sleepovers, school trips, and team sports
Teens “on the move” who have more freedom and access to vehicles: drivers' safety, parties, and dating
What I love the most about Gary and his book is that it’s something you and your teen can read. I know your teen wants to make good choices and knowledge is power!
For Gary’s GENEROUS gift of the first few chapters of his book, “Spotting Danger Before it Spots Your Teens”, you can download it from the Parent Toolbox. www.parent-toolbox.com

This episode is packed with so much information, it has something for everyone!
We are talking about working mom life, parenting, toxic positivity, setting boundaries and how to sit in your power as a woman!
Please meet my wonderful guest, Christine Michel Carter, who is the #1 Global Voice for Working Moms.
She has a wealth of knowledge and expertise in helping career women navigate the workplace and, when needed, works with them to transition to new flexible opportunities without sacrificing their income.
Throughout our discussion the same theme kept emerging and that is how striving to be “perfect” is holding us back! Whether you are a working mom or not, it still applies. Wanting to be perfect can stop us from asking for help, delegating, putting up boundaries and communicating OUR wants, needs and thoughts.
Perfectionism is driven by FEAR. Fear that we aren’t good enough, not worthy or an imposter. To be HUMAN is to be imperfect, so can we please stop right now with the perfection? If that idea is hard for you, let me ask you, what is being perfect costing you? Sanity, burnout, relationships, health, and peace?
When you reject perfectionism, you open the door to vulnerability which is hard, BUT you’re already uncomfortable…right? AND if we can all reject it, it helps all of us because when we no longer need to keep up the lie of it (which is exhausting!) it gives others the permission to do the same.
I couldn’t get enough of Christine and I know you will love this episode!

Even in today’s day and age, workplaces are still dominated by a culture that favors men as business leaders but research is finding how working moms are best equipped to bring 21st century leadership skills into the workplace.
I’m passionate about supporting parents, especially moms in the workplace, see their value and embrace the skills they have that make them such effective leaders. My guest, Jen Murtagh, feels the same way. So much so that she built her company Maturn, to support mothers transitioning in and out of maternity leave.
According to research done by Bright Horizons, working women bring skills to the workplace that make them the best leaders because they excel in areas such as bringing out the best in others, better listening, better team player and are also better at multitasking and time management.
In other words, supporting women in the workplace is good for business! And that’s where Maturn, and Jen’s expertise comes in!
In this episode, Jen and I talk about:
The motherhood penalty
How organizations can retain and grow women leaders
What mothers can gain from having support and a community

Nothing brings out your MAMA BEAR instinct like when your child is being mistreated. If your child is being bullied you can’t help but feel a whole host of emotions in defense of your child and against the bully. But what if your child is the Bully? What do you do then?
One thing that will help is teaching your children social emotional skills as well as learning boundaries how to set them and how to respect them. Christina Furnival is here to help us navigate the bully and boundary issue with such amazing knowledge and insight!
In this episode we talk about:
The importance of social emotional skills and how to start teaching them (even if you weren’t taught!) What to do if your child is being “bossy” or being “bossed around” How to use “sports casting” to describe what you are seeing in your child’s behavior (I love this idea!!)
