Marco Benevento - Coffee Cold
(Free MP3 download on ParisDJs.com) 2011-07-04

Amazing US keyboard player Marco Benevento is living up in the country with frogs and snakes and the Woodstock moon, workin' on a mad genius new studio album to be released sometime late next year!! In the meantime, lots of shows are on the horizon (check out the complete entry to this free track to access the full tour dates). Marco sent us this free track for the collaborative Paris DJs mix #300 but missed the spot by just a few days... It's a Galt McDermot cover, you've heard the original already in the 1968 movie The Thomas Crown Affair AND it's been sampled many times. It should get stuck in your head after just the first listen, and features Andrew Barr on drums and Dave Dreiwitz on bass. Well, that's what happened for me so I thought I couln't pass on sharing this one with everybody. His label The Royal Potato Faily agreed right away so here it is. Live and killer deep soul jazz recorded last april in Collinsville!

Tribute To Gil Scott-Heron - A Place For You (Grant Phabao Remix)
(Free MP3 download on ParisDJs.com) 2011-06-16

Gil Scott-Heron left us at the end of May. His bluesology, black American music and message marked us forever. Sandra Nkake and Ji Dru have wrote and recorded in one night an homage piece, A Place For You!. Joined by a bunch of friends who felt as much concerned as they were, on a riff from Marvin Gaye's Inner City Blues, they sing a chorus tribute to Scott-Heron and borrow a text extracted from I Think I'll Call It Morning. The original track was mixed by Blackjoy, with remixes from Mark de Clive-Lowe, Doctor L, Loik Dury, Eric Legnini, Jeff Sharel feat. Karl The Voice, DJ Oil or Vadim Vernay (all available here). Oh! and of course from your favorite soundmaster and reggae producer Grant Phabao, who spectacularly manages to take the song to Kingston, Jamaica - but if you're a regular Paris DJs listener, you should be used to it by now...

Versus - Mr Blue (Grant Phabao Remix)
(Free MP3 download on ParisDJs.com) 2011-05-20

Our good ol' friend and doublebass player Lawkyz has just launched a new project, Versus, between hip hop, jazz, funk and blaxploitation. The band is playful and fun, sounding like early stuff from The Herbaliser with a distininguished French taste for Jazz musings. Their album will be out january 2012.

Meanwhile, they've asked many of their friends for remixes and the n°1 reggae producer worldwide, Grant Phabao, who had already worked with Lawkyz in the past on some still unreleased tracks with Amayo from Antibalas, agreed to put his magic hands on the Mr Blue piece. The result is astounding as always, Versus are immediately transported to Jamaican coasts and you'll be breakin' to hip hop while bouncing to reggae at the same time with a big smile on your face!!!

Ebo Taylor - Peace On Earth
(Free MP3 download on ParisDJs.com) 2011-04-19

We've been spreading the gospel about Ghanean singer/guitarist Ebo Taylor for years now. Some lucky ones were there at the 2009 show we produced for Ebo at La Bellevilloise. The others should definitively check all the upcoming live dates in June... Ebo Taylor released at the end of 2010 a new album, Life And Death, and his label Strut Records followed this release with a double anthology of Highlife & Afrobeat Classics, covering the years from 1973 to 1980, Life Stories, which you absolutely NEED to get/buy/download/hear/etc!! Here's a track extracted from this compilation to download for free, Peace On Earth, for those who still don't believe in the emotional power of Ebo Taylor's music.

Tracklisting :
01. Ebo Taylor - Peace On Earth

09th June - Festival Contretemps, Strasbourg, FR
10th June - Festival Cabaret Sauvage, Paris, FR
17th June - Festival Les Invites, Villeurbanne, FR
21st June - Jazz A La Defense, Paris, FR
01st July - Eysines Goes Soul, Bordeaux, FR
05th July - Jazz A Vienne Festival, FR
28th June - Tempo Rives, Angers, FR
04th August - Fiesta Sete, Sete, FR

From the Life Stories liner notes :
Ebo acknowledges the influence of US jazz rockers Blood Sweat & Tears and – less obviously, perhaps – Deep Purple on this easy going mid-tempo piece, written a few years before it was recorded, when Osibisa and various 'blaxploitation' themes were hip. "I was trying to fuse rock and jazz together with highlife", Ebo recalls. "This kind of music was ahead of its time – not very popular when we recorded it!"

Gimme gimme gimme some o'that... Reggay reggay! The vibe he received from the fine people of N.A.S.A. (Squeak E. Clean + DJ Zegon), after sending them a skanking reggae remix of their Money< track, pushed Grant Phabao to rework another track from their Spirit of Apollo album. Hip Hop feat. KRS-One, Fatlip, Slim Kid Tre is one of the coolest tributes to real hip-hop from the last years. The trick was to add a full Jamaican dubby smile to the whole, upload the mp3... and let you enjoy this exclusive remix - straight from the vaults of Paris DJs!
