Kinny - Forgetting To Remember (Grant Phabao Remix)
(Exclusive MP3 download on ParisDJs.com) 2010-03-07
Kinny – aka Caitlin Simpson – was born and raised in Canada and has a mixture of Jamaican, Native Canadian Indian, French and Swedish heritage. She sings jazz, reggae and soul for Brighton's Tru Thoughts label, on which she released two albums, Forgetting To Remember (2005, with Espen Horne), and Idle Forest of Chit Chat (2009, with Souldrop, TM Juke, Unforscene, Hint, Diesler, the Quantic Soul Orchestra and Nostalgia 77!). Her 2008 single Enough Said with the QSO was a huge hit in our books.
Grant Phabao ranks among the greatest multi-instrumentists/producers of his time. After 2 dub albums (as Tnargoabapah), 4 thematic albums with the T.I.M.E.C. collective, and 4 reggae albums with Jamaican veterans The Lone Ranger, Carlton Livingston, The Jays and The Silvertones, he's now hard at work with fellow Paris-based musical genius Doctor L on a series of collaborative concept albums for the brand new Colored-Inc. label (The Black Cat, Down By The River Side, One Foot In Jail).
Here's Kinny and Grant Phabao virtual meeting, featuring the songstress' unique soulful vocals (taken from the a capella version of Forgetting To Remember), drenched into Jamaican roots grooves courtesy of the one and only french dubmeister. Play it... and then play it again - this is music that doesn't age!

One of Superfly Records (our partner store) specialities is African records. 7 inches, long players, the rarest Afro vinyls are to be find at our Paris shop or on our online store. While preparing an African Special a few weeks ago, we stumbled upon a fantastic 45 from Nigerian band The Funkees, which included a superb cover of War, Slipping Into Darkness. We digitalized this beauty, had it mastered by our soundmaster Grant Phabao, and we're now sharing it with everyone as a free vitual release on ParisDJs.com. Don't say we don't love you!

The Deacon - Freedom Back(Exclusive MP3 download on ParisDJs.com) Kraked, 2009-12-06Some of you discovered Kologbo on stage at the Afrofunk party we organized last summer with Ebo Taylor & The Poets Of Rhythm. Some of you might even have heard the Remember Fela Anikulapo Kuti album he released in 2007 with Berlin's heaviest afrobeat ensemble Afrobeat Academy... Well he's now preparing a new album called Africa is the Future, produced by Loik Dury and to be relased early 2010!! Here's a preview, with Freedom Back featuring The Deacon (from The Duke & The King) on guest vocals, a real phat vintage slice of Afrofunk!Tracklisting :01. Kologbo feat. - Le Damn Dog - Watch OutLe Damn Dog - Watch Out(Exclusive limited MP3 download on ParisDJs.com) Rprdkt, 2009-09-12Rprdkt is home label of parisian band Le Damn Dog.LE DAMN DOG is a hellhound of a new project from top Parisian DJ-producer Erik Rug and DJ-MC Dynamax from the South Bronx. The surprise element is the musical tree on which the pair have chosen to cock their leg: a slavering mix of, hiphop and rock'n'roll delivered with pure punk attitude.Watch Out bangs together Erik's Stooges-style raw power guitar barrages with Dynamax's new-found 'Black John Wayne' persona, howling or panting to ram home the hard-hitting lyrics.Attention: The title has such an infectious hook that surely makes it an instant radio friendly number.Watch out is seriously getting attention from radio stations as it just been hammered on Radio Nova (France) this last summer, while it now also entered Couleur3's (CH) playlist since sept.Dont be surprised if you hear it on your favorite local radio station soon!Watch Out will also be available as a limited 7 inch vinyl, including a reggae remix by dubmeister Grant Phabao on the b-side...Already having props from Djs like Rob Mello, Laurent Garnier, Dj Cosmo, Kris Needs, Dave Haslam, Donald D, Lord Jazz (Lotug), Radio Nova (fr) Couleur3 (ch), Radio Grenouille (Fr)Tracklisting :01. - Lyrics Born - I Like It, I Love It (Grant Phabao Remix)Lyrics Born - I Like It, I Love It (Grant Phabao Remix)(Exclusive MP3 download on ParisDjs.com) 2009-08-13When Berkeley hip hop meets Jamaican reggae...Pressure keeps on rising for the upcoming releases of Grant Phabao's three (!) new albums with The Lone Ranger, Carlton Livingston and The Jays (on his own label T.I.M.E.C. co-run with Djouls and Captain Detendu)... The french dubmeister offers here a bouncy reggae rework of I Like It, I Love It, taken from last year's hit album Everywhere At Once (released on Quannum/ANTI). It's kind of a cousin of the N.A.S.A. remix he did earlier this year (featuring David Byrne and Chuck D.!) - all party-style with its rolling drum breaks and hookish chorus-like lyrics all along! A certified floor filler already tested and approved by fellow DJ Erik Rug at is famous WaxGroove nights.More Grant Phabao remixes to be released and/or podcasted soon for Tosca, Diesler feat. Laura Vane, Antipop Consortium, Le Damn Dog, Ocote Soul Sounds (all official ones!)...Tracklisting :01. - Michael Jackson - Rockin' Robin (Grant Phabao Remix)Michael Jackson - Rockin' Robin (Grant Phabao Remix)(Exclusive MP3 download on ParisDjs.com) 2009-07-21Rockin' Robin is a 1958 song by Bobby Day. The single was Day's only hit single, becoming a No. 2 Billboard Hot 100 hit. The song was covered by The Hollies on their first album in 1964 and would be revived as a single again in 1972 by the teenaged Michael Jackson as his second single release on Motown. Jackson took his version to number two on the U.S. pop singles chart that year. The french dubmeister Grant Phabao pays here his due tribute to the king of pop, with a reggae remix of this pop/rhythm and blues cover of a fifties song - rockin' the dancehall and burnin' one for the man!Tracklisting :01. - Erykah Badu - Soldier (Grant Phabao remix)Erykah Badu - Soldier (Grant Phabao remix)(Exclusive MP3 download on ParisDjs.com) 2009-07-03Grant Phabao's list of remixes is becoming months after months quite a treat, and we keep on feeding him with cool big hitters a cappelas to work his skank and dub magic on. George Clinton, Stevie Wonder, Erykah Badu, AC/DC (!), Q-Tip and Cee-Lo all got their proper rework, offered for free in remixed form, here on Paris DJs. BUT Q-Tip got the exclusive Grant Phabao treatment twice and we didn't want Erykah Badu (one of the most wonderful American voices of our time) to be jealous, so here's a second reggae take on a track from the New AmErykah Part.1 album. As usual, our friend and neighbour Erik Rug tells us he successfully tested the track on the floor and 100 percent supports the roots Jamaican vibe coupled with the heavy boombastic production skills from the french dubmeister.Tracklisting :01. - Big Daddy Kane vs Connie Price & The Keystones - Give A Demonstration Part.2 (Grant Phabao Remix)Big Daddy Kane vs Connie Price and The Keystones - Give A Demonstration Part.2 (Grant Phabao Remix)(Exclusive MP3 download on ParisDjs.com) 2009-06-19Connie Price and the Keystones began as a recording project for Stones Throw's Now-Again label involving Dan Ubick (Breakestra, Madlib's Sound Directions) and Todd M. Simon (Macy Gray, Antibalas, El Michels Affair). Combining elements of soul, afro beat, dub reggae, late 60's/early 70's film scores, and psychedelic rock and jazz into a soundtrack for the best film you've never seen. After the superb Wildflowers album on Now-Again in 2004, Connie Price and the Keystones joined forces with Big Daddy Kane in 2007 for an exclusive 12-inch in the Scion A/V series, revisiting the classic Big Daddy Kane track Give A Demonstration with new vocals from the smooth operator himself, over some heavy badass funk. The vinyl is quite rare and you'll have to pay 40 Euros now to get it... You won't find this track on their Tell Me Something soundtrack-inspired hip hop album from 2008, but, hopefully, the track will appear on the upcoming new full length Connie Price and the Keystones are currently in the studio working on with Big Daddy Kane. Look out for this new piece of NY funk/hip hop hybrid to appear at the end of the year... Meanwhile here's an exclusive new rework of this rare track, taylored-dressed into party-skanking reggae by our french dubmeister Grant Phabao. A smashing hit, again!? What do YOU think?Tracklisting :01. - Baby Charles - Hardman To Please (Grant Phabao Remix)Baby Charles - Hardman To Please (Grant Phabao Remix)(Exclusive MP3 download on ParisDjs.com) 2009-06-13During the last two years Brighton based deep funk sensation Dionne Charles has risen to quite a cult status. Her first album with her band Baby Charles was among the finest things to happen in Funk in 2008, supported by the likes of Snowboy, Keb Darge, Jazzman Gerald, Monk One, Andy Smith and Mark Lamarr... we even managed to play their Artic Monkeys cover in an afro mix on the ParisDJs podcast! She also appeared, among others, on Black Grass' fantastic III album (Catskills Records), on The New Mastersounds instant classic LP Plug & Play (One Note Records) and more recently on Soopasoul's superb Twin Stix album (Japaleno Records).Simultaneously tight but loose, heavy but soulful and dirty, Baby Charles' funky music is indeed beautiful and thanks to Nick at Record Kicks we're proud to present this soulful ska dressing of Hardman to Please by the french dubmeister, Grant Phabao! Baby Charles are currently in the studio recording the new album which is expected for March 2010. They plan to blast everyone out of this cosmos with a whole bunch of new killer songs. We hope there will be another song to reggae-remix in there so that a nice Baby Charles reggae 45 might be pressed in the future...(Djouls)Tracklisting :01.
