Ps Hilary Williams wraps up 2024 with a short word on gratitude. As we look back over the past 12 months, we are reminded to give thanks both IN all things (1 Thess 5) and FOR all things (Eph 5). Additionally this word reminds us or thankfulness is because of and through Jesus Himself - both who He is and all He has done.

John 8:12-20. Ps Christian continues our Advent series by looking at Jesus at the Feast of Tabernacles. Jesus meets the Pharisees who had forlornly waited for God's prophetic light to return. In this famous discourse Jesus declares He Himself is that Light. We are reminded that while we may experience fragments of joy, life and truth - we will only know these fully through Christ, the Light of the World.

Matthew 2:1-12. Anoj Joseph continues our Advent series by looking at the arrival of the Magi. While we are met with Herod's insecurity and the indifference of the priests, the Magi come with wonder and a longing to worship the newborn Christ. For us the key to avoiding indifference to Jesus is to behold Him and embrace the wonder of all He has done.

Luke 2:8-20. Ps Chris Smith continues our Advent series looking at the account of Jesus' birth. We are reminded that there is more to Christmas than what the world says, and this is a gospel for all. Chris challenges us not to lose the wonder of Christmas because it is the coming of God into our mess. May we know the more of Christmas this season.

Isaiah 8:19-9:7. Ps Hilary Williams kicks off our Christmas series by looking back to Isaiah's prophecy of Advent. Israel was in a dark place politically and spiritually, yet the prophet bluntly encourages them that light is coming. We realise that in Christ, we see God responding in a way Israel did not expect, but true to His plan. In our struggles we can likewise cling to God's love for us, and be assured He remains at work.

Guest speaker Rachel Dunwell returns to PCC and shares an encouraging word from Song of Songs to close our Holy Spirit series. Many of the western church appear to have forgotten that the Spirit's filling is primarily about us knowing God and His love, before any gift. The passage alludes to the fact that just as we have natural seasons, we have spiritual ones too. Rachel exhorts us to believe for a season of growth and renewal, that we might walk more in His love and lead those around us also.

Galatians 5:19-26. Anoj Joseph continues our Spirit series looking at Paul's closing remarks in Galatians 5. The apostle gives us a mirror in these verses - are we characterised by sin or the fruit of the Spirit? We usually find that despite our best efforts there are layers God continues to reveal in our hearts. We are reminded that the remedy is us belonging to God, and that we will want to put to death our human desires because we are His.

Galatians 5:1-18. Ps Hilary Williams continues our Life In The Spirit series by asking which side we find ourselves on. Paul reminds us that both legalism and licence threaten our freedom. Neither upholding or abandoning morality will help us grow as Christians. The apostle bluntly reminds us, it is being led by the Spirit continually will  enable us to walk on the freedom and fruitfulness God intended for us.

Galatians 5:13-15. Ps Christian Kahnt continues our Spirit series looking at the freedom God gives us to love. It would seem a paradox but true freedom is within the confines of God’s love. Furthermore, the command to love flows from God’s love and God's Spirit resident within us, and is the true expression that we are free in Christ.

Romans 8:1-17. Ps Hilary Williams kicks off our Life In The Spirit series by considering how the Holy Spirit gives a truly new life. Romans 8 sees Paul switch from what we are saved from, to what we are saved for. All that we do in our Christian life is empowered and enabled by the Spirit of God. And while there is clearly a responsibility for us, it cannot come about without the Spirit residing in us.
