Matt 18:1-4. Rohan Arudselvam continues our Unless series looking at Jesus' teaching about humility. One thing that has never changed is our desire to put ourselves first. It is also true that a gospel that tells us we are imperfect and need a Saviour is offensive. However, in order to receive the gift of Jesus, we must come with the humility and wonder of a child. This reminds us that greatness in God's kingdom is not in authority but in service.

Matthew 5:17-20. Leila Halawe continues our Unless series, by considering the law and righteousness. Law often leads us to one of two extremes - we either aim to strive for perfection, or give up completely. Unless our righteousness is more than external, our lawkeeping is fruitless. It is Jesus' work internally that brings us into right standing with God. We must be careful to sit at Jesus' feet before we serve in Jesus' name.

John 3:1-15. Ps Louis Baron kicks off our new series - and 2020 - looking at Jesus' words to Nicodemus. Jesus makes it clear that unless we submit to, and experience God's transforming power, we will never know Jesus. The great issue with this question is that recognising Jesus' rule is an admission of our own desperate need of Him. In other words, to "look and live" at Christ takes humble surrender.

Luke 2:8-20. Ps Hilary Williams continues our Advent series by looking at joy. We know joy matters, and we know that unlike happiness, joy does not rest on our circumstances - but we often find ourselves asking how do we get there. The good news is that true joy is only from God Himself. In light of this, Hilary challenges us to look upward to Jesus - who is both the joy that sustains us, and the very means of our eventual rescue and redemption.

Luke 2:1-7. Ps Mandy Fischer continues our Advent series looking at Bethlehem. We may ask why God would choose this little, insignificant town to take centre stage at Christmas. However this communicates to us that God identifies with our weakness and poverty. Furthermore, just as Jesus was willingly born into imperfection, so He willingly comes into our hearts with all of our imperfections.
