While approximately 59-million people in the US suffer from thyroid issues, the great majority aren’t even aware they have a thyroid problem. However, when the thyroid (the butterfly-shaped gland in the neck) is dysfunctional, it can cause an array of health issues, including weight gain, sexual dysfunction, depression, heart disease, and extreme fatigue.
Hyperthyroidism, or overproduction, results in anxiety, diarrhea, sweating, insomnia, and weight issues. A benign growth on the gland is called a goiter and can result in either of the above conditions. Thyroid conditions can also cause hair loss or dryness.
With hypothyroidism you may also experience: brittle nails, constipation, dry skin, enlarged thyroid, high cholesterol, irritability, sensitivity to cold, sexual dysfunction, slow heart rate, sluggishness, weight gain, or irregular uterine bleeding.
Tune in to this episode of Partners in Health and Biz with you host Gail Dixon-McBride, and learn how to identify a thyroid problem and how to keep your thyroid gland healthy!
