Welcome to Part XXVIII of our series on understanding counterfeit identity!
It is good and important to have strong relationships, it's just that we have to respect each other's differences and know that we can't identify ourselves by the standard of other people.
Hear why it's wrong in ways to think "I have to love you, but I don't have to like you." We need to be able to wish them well, not judge, and call out God's best for them. Shawn shares some personal experiences.
Hear how "church hurt" has nothing to do with God or other churches in general. Overcoming one church's faults and seeking where God wants you is imperative.

Welcome to Part XXVII of our series on understanding counterfeit identity!
"The Villager" is delved into detail. They identify themselves by their culture and social background. They might take on stereotypical traits and channel a persona that is characteristic of the culture they espouse according to their own perception even when they may not agree with it or feel true belonging.
People will fall short of expectations and if that's where we place our identity, value, and belonging…it will result in a very fragile and traumatizing life. Hear where you should place those things. It is important to be able to go where you are called to and love yourself in a wholesome way.

Welcome to Part XXVI of our series on understanding counterfeit identity!
Brandi and Shawn briefly share how you "find yourself." The subtype of the Helicopter Parent is discussed in how they are not complete unless they are surrounded by people for the majority of the time. "The Lonely Kid" is when a "people person'' goes to an extreme of codependency.
Hear where your happiness should come from along with how being dependent on relationships can be very empty and hurtful. "The Villager" archetype is also introduced.

Welcome to Part XXV of our series on understanding counterfeit identity!
Brandi summarizes the "Mentalists" family and Shawn introduces the third family, "Place Seekers." This group puts their worth strictly in relationships of various kinds and are at the mercy of those they seek value in and idolize. The focus is how they relate to those around them. Shawn compares and contrasts them to the Mentalists. The first archetype is the "Helicopter Parent" and it's not limited to strictly being a parent.
Brandi shares how she fell prey to this along with how this combined with the conditions of being a Careerist. Codependency is a major danger.

Welcome to Part XXIV of our series on understanding counterfeit identity!
This episode brings in the "Masochist" which is the second subtype of the Soloist. They are the opposite of the soloist in expression, but they share the root of self-absorption. They are hyper-aware of their own perceived unworthiness, imperfection, badness, sinfulness, or evil. They seek satisfaction within all of the hurt and negative beliefs of themselves. They indulge in self-pity.
Hear how people get caught up in this (even at an early age), the three ways people deal/interact with wounds, and how change is possible. Brandi illustrates this point with her experience in the abuse with her abductor.

Welcome to Part XXIII of our series on understanding counterfeit identity!
The first subtype of the "Soloist" is the "Virtuist." They idolize people around them and judge things and other people against the people they believe to be "perfect." The standards, values, and abilities of a certain person becomes God to the Virtuist. The imperfectness of a human can't replace God and basing identity in another person makes you fragile…whether it be that they disappoint or fail you, as well as the day that they die and you no longer have them to be your world and standard for living.
The Virtuist can easily fall into deception even about the person that they hold so highly. God doesn't change, but people do. You may feel like it at times because of misunderstanding, but God will never fail you. He will give you clarification if you seek it. Also, hear why copying others also doesn't create happiness.

Welcome to Part XXII of our series on understanding counterfeit identity!
The Soloist is defined and is the opposite of the Careerist. The cheerleader stereotype fits this archetype and is a threatening mentality to the generation that follows. They are caught up in self-focus and define themselves as being superior above everyone else.
Hear some ways in which this type forms through and is reinforced and how finding your identity is impossible with this mindset.

Welcome to Part XXI of our series on understanding counterfeit identity!
"The Relativist" switches between multiple belief systems at any given time, along with their own self-made belief system from the combination of those systems. Their ideas and beliefs change when it suits them. Hear how they also differ from the "Absolutist." Some things change, but truth does not. We can't change what's true to suit us and our comfort…if you do, you are in fact living in delusions, not reality.
Hear examples and reasons why there is unchanging truth. Forcing happiness doesn't create happiness or get rid of the hurt that is within you. The "Soloist" archetype is introduced…

Welcome to Part XX of our series on understanding counterfeit identity!
"The Absolutist" identifies with popular cultural systems and stereotypes that also gets over simplified. The complexity of who we are can't be put into a simplified labeling cultural system and be accurate…highschool clicks can be a perfect example, especially if it follows you past highschool. This archetype feels threatened by ambiguity and things they can't simplify to their liking. In some cases, they will run away from things that they come across and make up their own system.
Hear why you can't find identity and validation in labels along with this archetype's subtype, "The Relativist."
