  • Part-Time Fanboy Podcast: Ep 584 Jeremy Whitley Crafts a Horror Double Feature on Zoop with Slay and The Girlfriend Survives!

Jeremy Whitley is a writer who's probably known more in comic book circles as a creator of stories for the younger set. With comics like Princeless, The Dog Knight, and Navigating With You, Jeremy has built a reputation for crafting stories with strong emotional cores and relatable characters for the YA crowd. With his latest release, however, he unleashes two tales of terror sure to make fandom rise up and realize that Whitley definitely has a darker side. With Slay and The Girlfriend Survives ( now funding on Zoop) Jeremy serves up two horrific yarns in one fear filled flip-book package. This week on the Part-Time Fanboy podcast, Kristian chats with Jeremy about why he wanted to embrace his inner Stephen King, what the appeal was of releasing two creepy stories in a flip-book format, and what he likes to see in the horror movies he watches.

Miller returns to chat with Kristian to talk about the latest entry in the infected zombie universe. Is The Bone Temple a better sequel to 28 Years Later than that film was to 28 Days Later? • Part-Time Fanboy Podcast: Ep 580 Damn Dirty Apes-Planet of the Apes TV Show, Episodes 4-6

  • Part-Time Fanboy Podcast: Ep 578 Jeff Marvin Rediscovers His Religion With Hunters of Sheydim!

Jeff Marvin is a comic book writer who began his career with a book called The Virgin Killers, which was a comic about monster hunting nuns. Jeff, however, is Jewish, and as he developed the idea for his story he began to realize that he was having trouble continuing to write his tale without interjecting aspects of his own religion into the story. After a while, he decided he needed to step back from his creation and re-tool it so that it would more closely align with his own cultural experience. Thus Hunters of Sheydim was born. Hunters of Sheydim is a comic about twin sisters who are agents of the Baalei Shem Tov, a secret order of Jewish demon hunters. Aligned with Christian and Muslim monster hunting organizations, Baalei Shem Tov banished the demonic Sheydim from our plane of existence a decade ago, ushering in an unprecedented era of peace. Now the demons have returned and the alliance that defeated them finds itself splintering as the Sheydim begin exact their revenge on humanity. On this episode of the Part-Time Fanboy podcast, Kristian chats with Jeff about regaining inspiration for his comic work by using his own religious background to craft his story as well as his future plans for his own publishing company, Golem Press.

  • Part-Time Fanboy Podcast: Ep 575 Ari Gross Tells a Tale of Jewish Culture and Magic in Wardens!

Ari Gross is a comic creator whom Kristian considers deserving of wider recognition. With books like Upkeep and Wardens, Ari is a writer who delves into interesting subject matter and creates characters with heart. Wardens was one of Kristian's favorite comics of 2024. It's about a tough as nails Jewish seamstress by the name of Rachel Tussman who gets dragged into a world of mysticism when her place of work is destroyed by a fire. With Wardens, Gross and his artist, Rob Jennex, have created a world that is evocative of the ones that characters like Popeye, Betty Boop, or Tin Tin inhabit. This week Kristian talks with Ari about crafting a comic that is a tribute to his Jewish identity, how Wardens is also a celebration of multiculturalism, and why Jewish creators haven't always focused on telling stories centered around their own heritage.
