The Bible says do not fret because of evildoers.  We are not to fret, which means worrying, fuming, getting upset, or agonizing over evildoers.   Today, many, including Christians, agonize over the government, people groups, and even individuals who seemingly get away with evil. As the Bible says, we don’t wrestle against flesh and blood, so it does no good to worry.  Our fretting is hurting no one but ourselves and accomplishes very little.

In Christianity, death is the door to life. The only path to fruitfulness in the Kingdom of God is dying. We cannot expect to experience Pentecost without first the cross. Are we really dead to self?  Are we like Him?  Do we think like Him? Do we act like Him? Do we love like Him?   Jesus endured the cross with the strength and power of the Holy Spirit. Jesus walked, lived, and died in the strength and power of the Holy Spirit. We need the Spirit of God in our lives.

One of the traps that people fall into today is being overly concerned and caring about the opinions of others.   I have learned not to be worried about people's adverse reactions when there is nothing I can do about it or when I know that I am doing my best or doing what I believe is right.  If someone wants to judge me, think I failed, or think I compromised, I am not bothered by it.  We worry too much about what others say and think.  It is, as the Bible says, a snare.  It traps us from doing what is right.

In this sermon, we will begin a study of Genesis and look at the question: is the story of creation literal? When it comes to the question of whether we should take the beginning of Genesis as literal or not, there are two main camps. One side says that Genesis is an allegory, and we should treat elements of the stories as such. One reason for this is if you look at the stories, they don’t seem to make rational, logical or scientific sense. The literal side says that the creation, flood, and other events are actual historical events and happened as described. So, how should we read and interpret the first 11 chapters of Genesis? Is Genesis history? Did it happen as described? Is Genesis symbolism of what happened? Is it a parable? Does it matter anyway?  Find out more here.

So what does “work out” mean? Why does God give us this command in scripture? Here is part 2 of this message series.

Salvation was done for us and we weren’t involved in the accomplishment of it, but with salvation, there is a continual process in us. We are saved; Christ has borne our sins; Christ has done all for us; what He did was sufficient and when Jesus said “it is finished” all that needed to be done was finished; and because Jesus lives we have eternal life, however – though we are saved, we are not in place of relaxation or inactivity; our life is still lived out on the earth, in a world full of temptation, continuous trouble, full of sin, we have a physical body/mind, we have an enemy seeking to devour us and so there is a risk, it is necessary enduring and cooperation, there is also a growing, maturing that is required. Being saved does not simply mean that we can continue our old life as though nothing has happened. Repentance means turning from the old way and walking in the opposite direction in a new way. To put off the old man and be made into a new creation.  Find out more here.
