Pat and Jon are back to frequenting (see also: terrorizing) their local movie theaters, and they recently caught two of the year's biggest blockbusters—so they decided to catch up on their impressions of "No Time to Die" and "Dune." Which of the lads was lukewarm on the latest entry featuring a world-weary 007? Which one had a transcendent experience traversing the sandy mountains of Arrakis? Trick question: it's the same answer for both! (The other was too preoccupied with holding his bladder during the 2.5 hour runtimes to think about anything else.) They also talk about whether spy movies have a place in our current world and predict how "Dune" will fare at this year's Oscars.

It’s a P&J two-fer this week! After a quick review of Paul Schrader’s new film “The Card Counter” (spoilers aplenty, so skip to 28:30 if you plan on seeing it), the lads count down their most anticipated films for the remainder of the year and discuss some other buzzworthy 2021 moving pictures. As ever, there's some overlap with Pat and Jon's picks, as well as some unique flair to their respective lists—which feature an upcoming installment in a certain spy action series, a Western set in the state Pat likes to pretend he's from, and a movie about a washed-up porn star. Pat also humiliates Jon by correcting him on his pronunciation of a French-Canadian director’s name—because what else are co-hosts for?!

Do you remember who ran for class president at your high school? They joined the CIA after college, didn't they? Wait, sorry: this week the boys talk to author Mona Awad about the 1999 black comedy "Election." In addition to exploring the film's influence on Mona's new novel "All's Well" (which gives Pat and Jon flashbacks to college theater departments), the three recount stories of their own high schools' elections and discuss the legendary performance of Reese Witherspoon and stunt casting of Matthew Broderick. Pat and Jon even hear about Mona's chance encounter with a patron saint of the podcast (hint: look at the podcast art). Please don't write in Jon for any future elections—he's already stretched way too thin.
