This week it's Commandment Seven, "Do Not Commit Adultery." The message today is titled "Good Sex!" and is based Genesis 2: 19-25, Exodus 20: 14, Matthew 5: 27-28. We'll do some comparative analysis between what our culture thinks about sex, and the far greater intention that God has for this good gift.

Pastor John Wagenveld’s message on Sunday is “Waiting Eagerly,” and is based on Titus 2: 11-14. Paul writes to Titus, whom he calls “my true son in our common faith,” with some pastoral advice and instructions for leadership in the Church. He emphasizes good works as a result of the grace extended by God as a witness to the pagan context. He explains what must be taught to various groups within the church, and then comes this section that summarizes key aspects of the Gospel message: God’s grace that brings salvation, Godly living, the blessed hope, and the formation of a people who are eager to do good works.

This Sunday we welcome Jim Hollendoner, Pastor of Congregational Life at First CRC of Crown Point.. The message titled "Focus on the Finish" is based on Hebrews 12: 1-3. As runners in the race of faith on this side of eternity, what are we focusing on? All too often we focus on our surrounds or ourselves. As Christ followers, we need to be focused on the finish of the race.

Pastor Joel continues the series Love God Love All, a series on the Ten Commandments. Or, as we are referring to it, a series on the Ten Words. These words are so big and so broad that they frame a comprehensive view of theistic worship and morality. Based on Exodus 20: 13 , Genesis 4: 2b-7, this week’s words seems safe to those fingered in the other messages, “Do not kill.” However, it’s often violated by most of us. However, when understood, it’s a stunning look at the plan of our Creator for human life to flourish.

The fourth commandment says “Remember the Sabbath Day.” Sometimes it seems like this raises more questions than it answers? What does that mean? Should I work? What should I do on Sunday, and what should I NOT do on Sunday? And, most importantly, do I get to take a nap after church? Let’s wrestle with what God means when He calls us to “rest.”

After we look at Exodus 20:8-11, we’ll be traveling to (in this order) Genesis 2:1-3, Mark 2:23-28, and Hebrews 4:8-10.

Based on Exodus 20: 7, Exodus 20: 4-6 and Matthew 5: 33-37 - As we continue to study the “Ten Words” (AKA, the Ten Commandments), the third word shows us that there is one word that God takes very seriously- His name. But there’s a lot more to the Third Commandment than, “Don’t say bad words.”

Based on Exodus 20 and Dueteronomy 4:15-20 = This is week two of the Ten Commandments series. God tells His human creatures how to live. Are we listening? This week’s command is to not make images of God to use for worship. What is prohibited? What is positively expected? And what does this mean for us today?

You may think that this command is the easy one to obey. Be prepared to be wrong. It’s harder than you think. And this command is historically very messy for the Christian church. Let’s dig in!

Based on Exodus 20 - Pastor Joel begins a new series entitled:” Love God Love All.” It a series based on the 10 commandments.

The 10 commandments are God’s will for humans. God’s will for us is not first of all some individualized plan that yields a spouse, a meaningful job, 2 vehicles, a 3000 square foot home, and 82 years of life. God’s will for is first of all this will; these 10 regulations and stipulations in which He commands that the people of this earth frame their lives.

These 10 are so big, so broad that in the Hebrew and Greek language they are literally called the “ten words” or the “10 things.” The ancient Jews did not call these words the “10 commandments” b/c they understood these injunctions as broader than just a common list of 10 simple rules. These 10 words were to be a way of life, a means to show love to God and to all. They were valued words. Respected words. The 10 words were LIFE itself. Let’s dig in this summer to these life giving “10 words.”

Based on Acts 2:1-13. Sunday is a very special day for Pathway. It’s our 10th birthday celebration. We look back, and we wonder forward. For the message, let’s zoom in on Pathway’s conception 2000 years ago. Pathway began when the Holy Spirit arrived to fill His church.

Based on Matthew 16: 13-21. We will consider Jesus’ great challenge to His church when He took his disciples to a place they wouldn’t have dared tell their mother they went to, Caesarea Philippi. There He pronounced at the foot of Mt. Hermon and at the hellish city of Caesarea Philippi, “Upon this rock I will build my church and the gates of hell will not overcome it.” Much has been made over this text by Protestants and Catholics. We will learn how to circumvent ancient arguments over the rock being Peter or his testimony, and instead understand the rock as the cave of Pan. God will establish His church in the dark places. Hell cannot resist the expanse of His kingdom.
