In this episode of interlinks we are going to be taking a look at how businesses can leverage the multiple connections they have with their supply chain partners to build success for the future as we emerge from the emergency phase of the pandemic and enter the endemic phase.
To discuss this crucial aspect of supply chain I am delighted to be joined by my colleagues from the supply chain special interest group of the Society for the Advancement of Consulting :
This idea of the importance of external relationships or connections is really central to the whole idea of modern supply chains. We know that in the old days vertical integration was foremost whereas from the 1970s there was a focus on core competence as businesses internationalized. This changed the business paradigm from one of exercising control through ownership to one of exercising control through relationship.
Every modern company has myriad supply chain relationships but not all think about them same way and not all all value or nurture them the same way. In early 2020, the big test came for many organisation as COVID and the resulting supply chain crisis descended on the world and companies began to reap what they had sowed in terms of their supply chain relationships for better or for worse. More than a little panicking and scrambling around went on during this period as bottlenecks, shortages and price rises emerged.
In this discussion, we explore what companies are doing now to take best care of those supply chain relationships that are most critical to their ability to do business and to compete..

In this episode of Interlinks we talk to the independent energy management advisor, trainer, and auditor, Conor Molloy.
Conor specializes in transport energy management, and sits on the Global Logistics Emissions Council (GLEC)) panel of experts and he also works with the National Standards Authority of Ireland on standardization in the field of energy management and energy savings including the ISO/TC301 standard on net zero.
Through his company Authentic Energy Management Services (AEMS), Conor works with over 120 transport fleets in Ireland and abroad through the ECOfleet service operating under the EEOS or Energy Efficiency Operating Scheme.
Conor is also a member of Chartered Institute of Transport and Logistics in Ireland, the Freight Transport Association of Ireland, the Association of Energy Engineers, and an experienced Certified Measurement and Verification Professional.
Given the Irish government’s publication of their climate action plan 2021 to halve emissions by 2030 and reach net zero by 2050 and Ireland’s geographical reality of being an island off an island, transport emissions and how best to manage them from now on is a matter of urgent attention for every business operating here and so I am delighted to have had Conor with us to discuss the challenges ahead of us.

In this episode, my colleagues from the Society for the Advancement of Consulting (SAC), David Ogilvie from David Ogilvie Associates, in Brisbane, Australia and Diane Garcia from Lorraine Consulting in Portland, Oregon in the United States join me in a conversation with Professor Sanchoy Das, professor of Mechaniucal and Industrial Engineering at the New Jersey Institute of Technology to discuss some of the key concepts from his book Fast Fulfillment: The Machine that Changed Retail.
This is a very timely and apposite publication given the way e-commerce has exploded across the world as retailers have sought ways to adapt to the challenges posed by COVID including store closures, limited capacity, staff shortages, social distancing and myriad other restrictions.
In his book, Professor Das goes far beyond the the superficial commentary about e-commerce growth and future projections and digs deep into the concepts, tools and capabilities that retailers will need to master if they want to build a fulfillment machine that will enable them to be truly successful in the e-commerce business.
Ever heard of S-Fulfillment and O-Fulfillment, the E-Commerce Transfer Function, Alpha, Sigma and Gamma Automation, and Brownian Flow? If not, tune in and find out how understanding these concepts are key to success in e-commerce fulfillment.

In this episode we talk to Xavi Sanz, Branch Manager of the Hangzhou (China) Office of Across Logistics, an international logistics operator and freight forwarder. Xavi is originally from Barcelona in Spain, and through his career he has lived, studied, or worked in several countries including the US, Denmark, Singapore and China.
Likewise, Across Logistics, a Spanish logistics company providing services in airfreight, sea freight, road freight and rail freight, as well as customs brokerage, warehousing and distribution logistics, is truly international with offices or joint venture partnerships in Europe and Asia giving the company a wide reach in countries such as the Netherlands, China, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam.
Given the challenges that both manufacturing and distribution companies have been experiencing in Europe over the last year with their inbound logistics from Asia, I am looking forward very much to finding out from Xavi what the latest developments are in this area and what businesses should be considering as they plan their logistics operations to support their business strategies for 2022.

In this episode we talk to Alan McKinnon, Professor of Logistics at Kuehne Logistics University, Hamburg, and Professor Emeritus at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh.
Alan has been researching and teaching in freight transport and logistics for over 40 years and has published extensively in journals and books on many different aspects of the subject and much of his recent research has focused on the links between logistics and climate change.
This is very apposite right now given that freight transport in all its guises by land, sea and air and the associated facilities such as terminals and warehouses are among the major contributors to global emissions and the COP 26 UN Conference on Climate Change gets underway in Alan’s native Scotland this very week.
In this episode Alan and I discuss how the freight transport industry will change in the coming years as it transforms itself to the reality of a low carbon future while continuing to support the modern economies and standards of living that we have become accustomed to.
