In this episode we talk to to Sanchoy Das, Professor of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at the New Jersey Institute of Technology in the US and author of the book Fast Fulfillment: The Machine that Changed Retailing.
This is an extremely timely publication, given the way so many businesses around the world have had to embrace online retail to survive and thrive through the period of the COVID pandemic. Indeed, many have made a virtue out of the necessity that has fueled new thinking and new strategies among retailers regarding the place of online retail in their business models as they realise that it is very different in an operation and commercial sense from what they have been accustomed to up to now.
Sanchoy's book is fascinating and takes a detailed look at the paradigm shift ongoing in retail logistics focusing on the very necessary condition of speed and how this can be achieved through physical and digital innovation. If you want to learn how, in a practical operational way, to build a fast fulfillment machine for your own business, then this book by Sanchoy Das is a must-read for you.

In this episode we talk Dr Edward Sweeney, Professor of Supply Chain Management, at the Centre for Logistics and Sustainability at Heriot-Watt University, in Edinburgh, Scotland.
On this show, we have been talking with guests from around the world about the importance of international supply chains since long before the COVID pandemic. Right now however, and because of the supply chain crisis, the supply chain suddenly appears to be of huge interest to everyone including politicians, the mass media and the average person in the street. All are concerned about shortages, rising prices and what the future might hold.
Edward joins us on the show in this episode for the second time and I have asked him back precisely because of this new and heightened profile of international supply chains so that he can help us to understand what exactly is going on and what might be coming next.

In this episode we talk to Frank Kilbride, Country Manager, Ireland of the international logistics services company Aramex, based just north of Dublin.
Aramex is a business that is plugged right into all the international supply chain networks that we have been hearing so much about in recent weeks and months in the media due to constraints, bottlenecks, and shortages in many parts of the world.
Aramex has its HQ in Dubai in the UAE but operates in over 50 countries, including Ireland, with hubs in Dublin, Cork, and Shannon.
In Ireland, the business essentially has three service offerings:
· Freight Transport – including Ocean, Air and Land
· Logistics Services – which covers Warehousing, Stock Management and Pick n Pack Order Fulfilment
· Express Delivery
This is the second time that Frank has joined us on the show and I have asked him back to explore the world of the supply chain. That is the supply chain which used to work away effectively unseen and unheard of by most lay people and that has now become a subject of acute attention and concern to the media, politicians and the average citizen in the street, as we experience the ongoing consequences of Brexit in northwestern Europe and the lingering effects of the COVID pandemic on the world economy.

This is the second time that Mark has joined us on the show and I have asked him back because the sustainability agenda appears to have moved onto a new, more serious footing now as we emerge from the emergency phase of the COVID pandemic in late 2021.
During this year 2021 we have had a summer of extreme weather with fires, floods, and hurricanes in various parts of the globe, the publishing of an alarming IPCC report that has set of the ambition of the goal and the magnitude of the challenge of reaching net zero emissions by 2050 and we have the upcoming COP26 United Nations Climate Change Conference in Glasgow, Scotland in early November which has been described as the world’s best last chance to get runaway climate change under control.
In this interview we get Mark's perspective on all of these topics and more.

In this episode we talk to Stefan Huyghe, Vice President of Translation at Communicaid Language Solutions Inc.
Stefan is based in Texas and is a native of Belgium, a country with three official languages, that include Stefan's native language, Flemish or Southern Dutch (I ask him to clarify that distinction in the interview), French, and German.
Stefan went to school in Switzerland, another multilingual country, this time with four official languages, German, French, Italian and Romansh. Consequently, the fact that Stefan is in the translation business is not really a big surprise.
In today's globalized economy, we all want to enjoy the products and services of the whole world in our home markets, and as a consequence, translation and the localization of business strategies have become big business.
If you want to effectively promote and sell your offerings around the world you are inevitably going to need the services and expertise of people like Stefan and his firm Communicaid.

In this episode of interlinks we take a deeper dive into the world of the supply chain, with a group of international experts, all colleagues of mine from the Supply Chain Special Interest Group at the Society for the Advancement of Consulting.
All through 2021 we have been hearing of inflationary pressure feeding through to the high street driven by pandemic-related factors and non-pandemic-related factors in the supply chain.
Notable among them has been the rise in the cost of transport of containerised freight from Asia to Europe and North America, chip shortages in the automotive industry and commodity shortages for materials such as timber, glass, and construction materials.
So far, central banks in Europe, America and Asia have been sanguine about the rise in inflation, which has hit a ten-year high of 2.2%, and are not alarmed nor are they indicating a move to raise interest rates any time soon. Their view is that these are non-core, short term inflationary pressures that will normalise as economies recover from COVID.
Be that as it may, businesses are now having to cope with rising costs and shortages at this point in time and for the weeks and months ahead and that is what we are going to be discussing today – the type and nature of the challenges, how long they may endure and what companies are doing to mitigate and avoid their effects.
To discuss these issues in this episode I am delighted to be joined by:
