Recent years have thrown up a series of events that have caused inbound supply disruptions for developed economies that are highly dependent on smooth operation of international supply chains.
Some of these disruptions have been bigger while others have been smaller, some have been regional and others global, but all have had significant impacts around the world.
Over last 10 years alone, among other events, we have had:
The disruptions resulting from the more recent of these are still ongoing through 2021 and are having undesired adverse effects on supply chains all around the world affecting manufacturing, distribution and retail.
In this podcast we get front-line perspectives on the causes and effects of these supply disruptions from Europe, America and Australia as I am joined in discussion in this episode by Evan Bulmer, principal at Evan Bulmer & Associates in Adelaide, Australia and Lisa Anderson, president of the LMA Consulting Group in the Los Angeles California.

The five areas are:

In this episode we talk to Alexander Nowroth, partner at the Dusseldorf based Management Consulting company LEBENSWERK CONSULTING GROUP.
This is the second time that Alex joins us on the show this year and I have asked him back because one of his specialist areas of expertise is Ocean Freight having worked with international logistics companies such as Dachser, Schenker, WorldNet, CTC and Maersk over the years.
Consequently, I wanted to get his views on the impact of the recent blockage of the Suez Canal by the 200,000-tonne container ship Ever Given with nearly 20,000 containers on board and the resulting disruption to global trade and supply chains.
The ship was stuck in the canal for 6 days from 23rd March and during that time a backlog of some 450 ships of all types and sizes with billions of dollars of freight on board was held up.
Indeed, the last of these delayed vessels only managed o pass through the canal over this past weekend nearly two weeks after the initial blockage.
In this conversation, Alex and I discuss the background to this incident, its implications and what we are likely to see occurring in the future for this crucial sector that binds our global supply chains together.

In this episode we talk to Bruno Pesec, engineer, innovator and businessman. Bruno is president of Pesec Global, a business consultancy specializing in helping business leaders increase the returns on their investments in innovation, based in Oslo, Norway.
This is the second time that Bruno has been on Interlinks with us and I have asked him back on this occasion because he has just produced a new e-book called the 9 Big Don’ts of Corporate Innovation: How to Spot and Avoid Costly Innovation Mistakes that I think is timely given where we are in the world at this moment in time having lived through over a year of COVID-19.
During this time, many of us have been compelled to innovate to cope with the restrictions imposed on us by the pandemic, whether in our personal, social or professional lives .
Perhaps unexpectedly, some of us, I think, are realizing, that much of this innovation, although forced by emergency circumstances, will be very positive and stay with us for the long term. Many of us have also realized that we are quite resilient and have a capacity to absorb innovation and change that we did not suspect.
Consequently, we are asking ourselves – what other opportunities for innovation are there that we can initiate now without the need to be forced, and how can we do this in the most effective way?
That is what we explore with Bruno in this interview.
