An example of a Wheel of Life

 

Now that we all know how to recognize our sabotage patterns we must make certain that we don’t form new ones. As we move toward achieving our goals it’s important to nurture every aspect of our lives. Some sabotage patterns can be formed by completely unassociated things.

As I discuss in this episode, I was beginning to feel imbalanced in my life as I spent more time on this podcast. I was feeling excited about the work I’ve been doing, but could also feel the less nurtured areas of my life calling for more attention. If I weren’t careful and aware of my emotions I could easily begin to associate hard work and accomplishment with feelings of disconnectedness and loneliness as a result of spending so much time working.

Completing a Wheel of Life periodically will help shed light on the areas of your life that might need more attention. By doing this our experiences of success will be much more enriching and fulfilling.

 

       

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Here are some questions to ponder in regards to self-sabotage:

Have you ever fallen short of your potential in an area or activity you once enjoyed?

Can you recall a time you experienced pain (physical or emotional) while participating in that activity?

Sometimes pain in one area of your life can affect other areas of your life. For example, the disappointment of getting cut from your high school team may have caused you to avoid potentially disappointing results in your personal or professional life.

This week, set the intention to understand your sabotage patterns. Also, ponder the questions I posed above. Sometimes events and experiences we barely even remember affect our daily lives. You may find yourself recalling an event from your past that maybe you hadn’t thought about for many years. If this happens, stop and think about it. What were you doing? Who else was there? What are the emotions you experienced before, during, and after these events occurred? Compare these events and the associated emotions with other similar events from your past and present? You may find that some of these same emotions you experienced long ago are being relived in your present life and holding you back from living to your fullest potential.

Apparently, when I’m scared I’m also very boring. Sorry about this one. If you don’t listen to the whole thing you won’t hurt my feelings.

The irony of this is that I talk about mindset and how changing one’s focus from “hobby” to “business” changes the whole game even if the actions are basically the same. Right now, I find myself so intent on making this podcast a business that it’s getting more and more boring. The good news is that being bored is a great catalyst for me to make things more entertaining for myself and those around me. The bad news is that I’m committed to posting each of this first batch of episodes, so here it is.

In case you didn’t believe me when I said I’ve attempted other podcasts I have proof right here. This interview was conducted in the fall of 2013 just as Mr. Ghadimi was rolling out SecretAcademics.com.

You may be wondering why I’m throwing this seemingly ancient bit of history into the mix just as I’m getting started on a new endeavor. Well, so am I. When I started planning and recording some episodes for this podcast I thought I would follow much the same format as my previously attempted podcast, The Tipping Point Podcast. I figured I would share some of my experiences and interview successful business owners to gain some insight into what they did to achieve their first tastes of success.

As I continue to plan episodes I seem to be taking a different approach. However, before I go too far, I wanted to get some feedback from you, my listeners. I’ve been following Secret Entourage on Instagram (@secretentourage) and really enjoying its content. I really wanted to help promote what Pejman is doing.

At first glance, the balance beam is by far the most lame piece of playground apparatus. It’s a four-by-four piece of lumber staked into the ground. But add a little imagination (i.e. the surrounding mulch is actually hot lava), and a group of kids will entertain themselves during an entire recess period!

So what happens should someone fall off the beam into the “lava?” Well, that individual experiences the pain of “dying” and being out of the game. That particular student might even experience some actual pain should he fall off and skin his knee. So playing that game, one learns pretty quickly to keep balance.

I see the process of seeking success in much the same way. Keeping life balanced while striving to reach a goal makes the entire “game” much more enjoyable!
