  • Episode 6: Motivational Jiu Jitsu
I once saw an Instagram post that read:
“If you think about it, we’re all white belts in karate.”
Armed with that piece of knowledge, plus the fact that the best martial artists use their opponent’s momentum against them, we can overcome our own mental hurdles. In this episode I discuss how I leveraged my own negative momentum of watching too much television into empowering action.

Find your inspiration and motivation. It’s probably hidden in some of the less-empowering things you do each day.
Watch too much television? Watch television that will educate, motivate, and/or inspire you!
Lie in bed too long dreading the work day? Get up and work on something you love!
Spend too much time on social media? Get out and volunteer!
Stuck in another Halo marathon? Turn it off and think about how the game can be improved. You may come up with your own idea for a video game!

  • Episode 5: Sometimes, Awareness Is All You Need
When it comes to making changes to improve our lives, awareness is often all it takes. Such was the case with me as highlighted in this episode:

In this episode, I mention that I’m borrowing my “Prime Time” idea from Tony Robbins. He actually has a separate exercise called “Priming” which is completely different from what I do but produces much of the same results.

  • Episode 4: The Goals Beyond Our Goals

Why do we all work so dang hard? In this episode I briefly discuss goals and visions. I also mention the goals beyond our goals. But why do we even bother? Why do we set goals? Why do we work so hard to achieve them?
In his 30-day audio lesson, Personal Power II, Tony Robbins says that anything we can ever want comes down to the feelings we associate with having those things. When I spoke with my sister prior to recording this episode she gave me the example of someone training for a marathon. This particular individual also planned a party for herself that she would host to celebrate her accomplishment. The party was meant to hold her accountable so that she would train for the race and, thereby, have a reason to celebrate with her friends. She would also avoid the embarrassment of cancelling the party due to the fact that she didn’t follow through on her goals.
Accountability is great, but what it really comes down to is the fact that we all want to be happy. Happiness is defined differently by each of us, and we each have different vehicles for achieving it.
So the next question becomes, “Why is it important for us to be happy?”
Well, once we’ve reached a level of life where our own happiness is growing daily we can’t help but want to help others find the same level in their own lives! It’s my hope that this episode acts as a stepping stone toward your own happiness. Enjoy!

    Questions to Ponder:
Why do I sabotage my success?
What is the vision for my future?
Am I excited about my future?

  • Episode 2: Temet Nosce
If you’re as big of a geek as I am, you may have spent some time imagining yourself as a Lord or Lady of Westeros. If you’re as extra-super geeky as I am, you have definitely imagined yourself as a Lord or Lady of Westeros, you’ve chosen a sigil and family words, and laid it out very nicely in Adobe Illustrator, like this:
The Official Banner of House Eichhold (official at my house, anyway)
(By the way, if you have no idea what I’m talking about read the A Song of Ice and Fire series by George R.R. Martin. You may also take the lazy road and watch the H.B.O. series Game of Thrones. Actually, I recommend doing both. There are so many dang characters to follow that watching the show and reading the books has helped me tremendously in following the story.)
    [Tangent over]
I don’t know German, but the best translation of my name that I’ve been able to decipher is “an area of oak trees.” So my sigil is, of course, an oak tree. Sounds pretty lame, I know, but that’s just on the surface.
Oak was the preferred wood for Viking longships because of its strength and flexibility. So imagine that lame oak tree cut into boards and fashioned into a boat with a bad-ass dragon head on in it! Starting to wish you could have an oak tree as your sigil now, aren’t you!?
So now you’re thinking, “If that’s the case, why not use a Viking longship as your sigil, Patrick?”
Well, what you can’t tell by looking at this tree is its height. It is a fully-grown, 100-foot-tall oak tree. Hmmm, perhaps I should add a photo of myself for size reference:
Hmm, it looks rather difficult to see me on there. Maybe I should just do this:
The tree is 100-feet tall because in his book, Secrets of the Millionaire Mind: Mastering the Inner Game of Wealth, T. Harv Eker states, “If a 100-foot oak tree had the mind of a human, it would only grow to be ten feet tall.” And, well, I firmly intend to be a 100-foot oak tree which means I have a lot of mental work to do. Therefore, the size of the tree represents my commitment to constantly learning and growing.
Wait…why am I telling you about this? Oh yeah, the words of House (Patrick) Eichhold, “Temet nosce.” To quote the Oracle from The Matrix, “It’s latin. It means ‘know thyself.'”
When I succeed and achieve the life of my dreams, it will be because of my superior self-knowledge and -awareness. This episode is about that topic.

I had no luck finding the name of the book I mention at the 3:50 mark. Anyone out there know which book I’m talking about?

If you would like to find a good mental health counselor there are many avenues. You many ask for a referral from your physician, find a list of counselors in your health insurer’s network, or simply find one in the yellow pages or through a Google search.
Begin to know thyself by asking questions of yourself and listening to your thoughts and feelings to receive the answers.

  • Episode 1: The Syllabus
Remember the first day of school? No one wants to actually learn anything. You just want to find out where your classes are, find out which of your classmates are most attractive, and make a semester-long assumption of whether or not your going to like the class based on the teacher’s presentation of the class syllabus.
That’s what this episode is like. I’m just getting started and laying some very lax groundwork. Have a listen!

About Pat's Ponderances Podcast

From the publisher's feed

Six-feet, nine-inches tall and still "growing" is how Pat's Ponderances Podcast host, Patrick Eichhold, describes himself. He spent 11 years listening to, reading, and watching content by Jim Rohn, Tony Robbins, T. Harv Eker, and Tim Ferriss (among many others) only to find out that a freak accident from his childhood (don't worry no one was seriously injured) was the singular moment that was preventing him from acheiving his life's goals.
