There’s a particular type of John Legend song which I enjoy. Those tracks in which he sings over hip hop beats. This mixtape is a collection of some of those songs. There are some other more r-n-b style tunes, which I think are great and are included.

YouTube Red vs. Podcasts as a research tools, education or entertainment. Youtube Red offers a feature which allows you to to listen/watch videos offline. A wi-fi signal or cell service is not required after you download the YouTube content. You can also watch/listen to the material with the screen off, in the background, similar to how one would like to music or a podcast on their device.
Youtube as a whole is one of the biggest search engines in the world. I'm currently getting back into Kindle publishing and there is plenty of info on YouTube that is short and to the point on the topic. Podcasts are great too. They tend to be longer and more in depth. Often, content on YouTube is not available in podcast form. I'm thinking people put out content on the platform as there is no monthly costs associated with doing so where with podcasting there is hosting, managing a website, etc.
I wish I would've signed up earlier to YTR. I'm learning so much and videos are easily accessible. Doesn't mean it's always the best content. Sometimes it must be vetted. Make sure it's not just someone ranting or giving a skewed opinion. Which can be helpful or a waste of time.
This is also another reminder that I personally like quicker/shorter content. In my own podcast I did an experiment recently where I tried to put together a bunch of various content (of my own)into one big episode. That was fun, but took a lot of work. I went back to bite sized chunks. It's quicker, and I can release 2-3 episodes per week, that's my goal I'm working towards anyway.
Quicker, shorter content on YouTube is great and simple to digest. The main reason I like audio, it doesn't have me sitting down in front of the TV for hours. I can do other stuff. Freeing me up to to at least two things at a time. Walk, exercise, cook. These are normally the other activities I'm doing while listening. YouTube Red, great investment. Podcasts I'm so grateful for and will continue to utilize.
Another tool I have utilizing lately is the Echo Dot. Particularly for research. I put up a video on how I do so which I will link to in this blog post/show notes/description for this video. A combination of the Alexa app, the Text to Speech feature, and the Kindle app make for tremendous reference instruments.
One example, I will buy an ebook on Amazon. It will be available on the Kindle app in my Ipad. I will open the Alexa app associated with the Echo Dot. Open the Kindle subsection in the app menu. Open the book I just purchased. The Echo Dot will use the Text to Speech feature and begin reading the book aloud. It's similar to listening to a podcast or YouTube Red. If I hear something interesting I may want to use for a book takeaway, I will say 'Alexa pause'. I will open the Kindle app on the Ipad, select the book being 'read'. It will jump to the current page Alexa would be currently on. I can use the highlight tool within the Kindle App to highlight that particular part of interest. Making it easier to go back to at a later time.
I love this feature! Moving forward I will be encouraged to buy more eBooks. Maybe even the official audiobook version, buy the eBook version and do the same as the audio version is being 'read' aloud by Alexa.
What are some ways you research or look up info with current technology? I'd love to read/hear what you have to say.
On an unrelated note, all this audio content from podcasts and YTR is what inspires me to write. How can I include the entertainment podcasts I love listening to, into my daily writing? How can I use that for content? The thing is, by the time I put out the podcast/video/blog post, the stuff I heard on that particular podcast may be outdated. Something to think about. A possible different direction for the future. That way I'm putting all this entertainment news I'm listening to, to use. An idea we can all use.

On this episode I review Logan. Excellent departure from the X-men movies. Check out the review.

After the early reviews, the buzz, I was really looking forward to this movie. Co-workers had seen it and their reviews had ranged from ‘adequate’ to ‘tear-jerking’.
This is one of the better X-men movies. Right up there with First Class, Deadpool and Days of Future Past being my favorites. In my opinion none of the X Men films have been downright terrible. All have been decent to great. X3 and Wolverine Origins are the two films which are universally panned, but I didn’t think they were unwatchable.
If you, like myself, have watched all these films since the year 2000, which I still can’t believe this franchise has been around that long, Logan will reward you.
Logan is an investment/payoff film. If you’ve been emotionally tied to these characters for years, the film will really resonate with you. This movie we fans, have gotten what common sense would dictate, that a character like Wolverine would curse, be violent. Shed lots of blood and make others do the same.
Superhero films, I feel are better when they are in another genre. The tropes of a superhero movie; the origin story, fight bad guys, get the girl, stop a city or world ending event. With all the comic book movies we’ve gotten within the last 20 plus years, I just don’t think this formula works well anymore unless it is something we haven’t seen before and even then I don’t think it can be refreshing.
Putting superheroes in other genre movies tends to work better. Examples being the dark knight which was a crime drama, deadpool which was a romantic comedy for the most part, ant-man which was a heist movie.
This movie for all intents and purposes was a drama. A bloody one at that.
My older brother use to read comics when we were kids. I adore my older brother and wanted to follow everything he did. One of the comics he use to read was the Uncanny X-men, so I read it as well and back then Wolverine was my favorite character. It’s taken 17 years to get this character 100% right I feel and this movie did that.
This movie and Deadpool as well have shown that R-rated superhero movies can work. Also stand alone movies connected to the universe (or not) can work as well. I feel 20th Century Fox who own the rights to X-men movie, TV franchise are starting to be more consistent or maybe find a success formula with these films. Deadpool being the first, now Logan.
Particulars about the film, The violence and the cursing started right from the get go. The emotion in the movie was wonderful and at times heart wrenching. The entire cast was fantastic with Patrick Stewart being the heart of the film then that transfers to the young girl who plays X-23/Lauren, actress Dafne Keen. I enjoyed Wolverine’s main opposition being a group of badguys. Boyd Holbrook from Narcos was fantastic, so was Richard Grant. The Logan clone was a good choice for Wolverine’s main-physical opposition. If it had been a character from the X-men universe it may have taken away from the main story. The clone was a disposable heavy.
Hugh Jackman playing a damaged older wolverine, sick, walking with a limp, one of his claws not fully retracting, I was sold.
My cons with the film. The explain away cell phone video which reveals X-23’s origin, I just found that to be convenient. Logan’s death in the end. I mean hasn’t he been through worse and come back. I didn’t buy it.
20th Century Fox is really stepping it up with these films. I think I’m going to fire up the Roku and rent Age Of Apocalypse.
9/10 for this terrific film. See this especially if you're a fan of the X Men film franchise. Let’s be honest though, you’ve probably already seen this.

This is a mix tape. This won't be for everybody. I love a number of musicals which have been released in the last 12 years or so. Netflix, as of late, has been releasing a few of my favorites which has had me reminiscing, singing the songs, out loud at home. Films such as Across the Universe, and especially Sweeney Todd.
This mix tape consists mostly of male performances. The ladies in the movies sing incredible numbers, but I don't feel the guys get enough love. I feel the performance from the men is masculine and stoic. A far departure, I feel of how men are portrayed in so many of today's films and tv shows as grown man children. Overly sensitive and without a clue.
The films covered in this mix tape but not in this order.
-Sweeney Todd (2007) with Johnny Depp, directed by Tim Burton. -Across the Universe (2006) with Jim Sturgess, directed by Julie Taymor. -La La Land (2016) with Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling, directed by Damian Chazelle. -Dreamgirls (2007) with Jamie Foxx, directed by Bill Condon. -Les Miserables (2012) with Hugh Jackman, directed by Tom Hooper. -Get Him To The Greek (2010) with Russell Brand, directed by Nicholas Stoller -Sing Street (2016) directed by John Carney. -Walk the Line (2005) with Joaquin Phoenix, directed by James Mangold.
Other musicals, honorable mentions, which are some of my favorites are but are not on this mixtape are: Ray (2004), Once (2007), Begin Again (2013), Rock Of Ages (2012).
Enjoy!

I'm more determined to not give up. This same time last year I would've given up. The other night I went live on instagram, facebook, periscope, and youtube. About 3 people showed up. It was crickets. But 3 people showed up! The view count afterwards on facebook for the video, have jumped to close to 50+. I don't think it means full views, but it boosts my ego a bit.
Everyday I listen to self development/personal development material. A point which continues to come up or the one of the many little nuggets I continually gravitate to, is to not give up. Keep going. Even when it seems no one is paying attention.
I did make mistakes the other night when I went live. I said I would come on at 10 pm EST, I came on around 10:14 pm. I also think I came on too late. I may have had better results coming on at 8pm EST instead. These days I'm all about experimenting and seeing what works and what doesn't. Experimenting has made me better at podcasting, blogging, reselling, kindle publishing, in my artwork and writing. There was a time I wouldn't label it experimenting. I would call it stumbling, fumbling along, making mistakes as I progressed.
This scenario of putting something out and hearing crickets isn't new to me. There have been times when I've invited 'friends' on social media to come out to parties and no one showed up. There was a time when I had my very own dancehall class and only one person showed up. Maybe I haven't a track record of giving value. Repeatedly and constantly. Maybe I haven't spent enough time giving support, building relationships. Simply put, maybe I haven't given enough.
In the end, been there done that. I half expect it. Again its failure and mistakes which are precious. How many other variations of a particular action can one try? What perfect storm of ease of use and best results can one combine, that works for you?
Where am I experimenting now? Youtube mostly. I'm thinking of going the route of recording everything in video, then turning it into audio for the podcast.
Two podcasts I listened to this week. One was titled 'How to Create and Evaluate a Successful YouTube Framework' by Tim Schmoyer from Video Creators and 'Podcasting Pet Peeves by My Listeners' Dave Jackson from the School Of Podcasting. Similar takeaways I had from both of these podcasts:
That stuff is gold.
I just finished a drawing on Procreate. I've been experimenting there. Using photos for backgrounds and textures for my art, which I think is so cool. Going out taking pictures and using them as part of your artwork, love that. There is a 'Go Live' feature in Procreate using Periscope. I will start that tomorrow.
The key of this video/podcast is to not quit. Even when there are crickets. Keep building your content, keep building those muscles in whatever it is that you choose to do. There will be crickets for a while, but do you love doing what you're trying to build? Is it fun for you? Don't just do it for money, do it because you love it! Help people with what you do if you can, give what you can and build others up. But don't forget to take care of yourself first.
I've often heard in other podcasters say that once a fan finds you, loves you, they often will go back and seek out all of your older content.
The attention and money comes when you help people get what they want. These last few lines are repeated personal development memes. I believe them. It's feels fantastic when I help people out.
Be the best YOU by not quitting on YOU.
