The most famous Church approved apparition to have taken place in Ireland is the apparition at Knock, Co. Mayo in the West of Ireland on August 21st, 1879. This was a very unique apparition because, even though no words were spoken, the center of the apparition was the Lamb of God on an altar with angels flying overhead. To the side of the altar was the Blessed Virgin Mary who was in prayer and She was accompanied by St. Joseph and St. John the Evangelist.
The Shrine at Knock has been visited by Pope John Paul II in 1979 and Pope Francis in 2018. St. Teresa of Calcutta (Mother Teresa) visited the Shrine in 1993. In 2021, Pope Francis designated Knock as an International Eucharistic and Marian Shrine.
Fr. Shane Sullivan, an American priest ordained for the Archdiocese of Tuam (the Archdiocese in which Knock is located), gives a fascinating talk on the connection between the Apparition of Knock, the Book of Revelation & the Promise of Salvation.
Paving The Way Home is most grateful to Fr. Shane for allowing us to publish this talk, which he recorded on Zoom for a group of local people whom he speaks with on matters of the Catholic faith on a regular basis.
