Peakland UMC

Grace and peace to you, welcome to Sunday morning worship for November 13, 2022. I’m Rev. Joe Cailles, the pastor at Peakland United Methodist Church in Lynchburg Virginia.

The day after Halloween last week, I saw that the stores had pulled down the costumes and Halloween decorations and were already putting out the Christmas and winter decorations. I don’t have a problem with that at all. I enjoy the Advent and Christmas seasons with the music and lights and the reminder that God’s love is born in Jesus Christ.

In our scripture passage from Isaiah today, the prophet reminds us of God’s love even when life is hard and tedious and messy.

Grace and peace to you and welcome to Trusting God at all Times Kids Edition. This devotion is created for children of all ages. I’m Rev. Joe, and I’m the pastor at Peakland United Methodist Church in Lynchburg Virginia. All are welcome

In our time together now we’re going to do three things. Hold up three fingers. We’re going to sing our song with our mouths. We’re going to listen to a story from the Bible with our ears, and we’re going to pray the action prayer with using our words and our actions to pray and talk to God..

Let’s begin with our song, He’s got the whole world in his hands.

Andrew shares how a simple gift made all the difference to his day.... and you guessed it: he connected it to the kingdom of heaven.

From Pastor Joe:

For today’s devotion I’m using This Day, A Wesleyan Way of Prayer.

We begin with our opening prayer: Let’s lift up this prayer together:

From Pastor Dave:

The following information comes from “The 2016 Book of Discipline of the United Methodist Church”

In December of 1784 the famous Christmas Conference of Methodist Preachers was held in Baltimore at Lovely Lane Chapel. At this gathering the Methodist movement in America was organized becoming the Methodist Episcopal Church. The newly formed denomination published its first Book of Discipline in 1785, held its first General Conference in 1792 and drafted a Constitution in 1808.

From Pastor Joe:

For the past month, we at Peakland have been asking ourselves some questions.

When it comes to church life and the things we do at Peakland, what are you most passionate about?

What are your hopes for Peakland’s future?

From Linwood:

A number of years ago, my son moved to Nashville to play bass guitar. Without a lot of prospects upon arriving, he was quite successful in his endeavors to be a studio musician and travel around the country touring with a number of artists.

And he made a lot of friends. Over the course of a few months, Matt got some of his friends together to help me with an album I wanted to record. I’m very grateful for their help.

Here’s the title cut from that CD that came out of the collaboration with my son Matt, and his friends - Sing To The King.

From Peakland United Methodist Church in Lynchburg, Va. It's All Saints Sunday, and Communion. You are invited to participate.

Can you sing along with me?

Andrew reflects on the season of Allhallowtide and why it means so much to him. He reflects on the original traditions and the ways that he experiences them today, hundreds of years later.
