Most people chase quick wins. The real game-changers? They think long-term.
I just finished The Long Game by Dorie Clark, and it’s a must-read for anyone serious about building a meaningful career.
💡 Biggest Takeaways:
🔹 Optimize for Interesting – Don’t just chase the next title; follow what excites you. That’s where real innovation happens.
🔹 Relationships Have No Expiry Date – The best opportunities come from genuine, long-term connections. No agenda. No transaction.
🔹 Give & Take (Without Being a Taker) – Networking isn’t extraction. Respect time, give value, build trust.
🔹 Play the 20% Rule – Spend 1/5 of your time on projects that pay off years from now. It’s how real success compounds.
📖 If you’re tired of short-term thinking, read this book.
What’s one long-term bet you’re making on yourself this year? Let’s talk. 🚀

🚧 🧑🔧 The Upside of Trump: Improving Business and Trade Within Canada 🚧
Love him or hate him, Trump’s trade policies had an unexpected effect: forcing Canada to confront its own internal trade barriers.
While we obsess over external trade deals, interprovincial trade restrictions are silently bleeding the Canadian economy—to the tune of billions in lost opportunities.
📊 The Numbers Don’t Lie:
💰 Internal trade barriers increase the cost of goods by 30% on average
🚛 In some regions (like the North), trade costs exceed 60%
📈 Removing these barriers could boost GDP per capita by 4%
🇺🇸 Meanwhile, Canada relies on the U.S. for 63% of its total trade—a risky position as U.S. policies become more protectionist
The Fix?
✅ Streamline provincial regulations – Why does the same product need different certifications in different provinces? Mutual recognition agreements can fix this.
✅ Invest in infrastructure – Remote regions are cut off from economic opportunities due to poor roads, rail, and connectivity. A Northern Transportation Corridor could reduce trade costs and unlock economic potential.
✅ Strengthen provincial trade agreements – The Canadian Free Trade Agreement (CFTA) is a step forward, but enforcement is weak. Provinces still impose protectionist policies, especially in energy, construction, and alcohol distribution.
✅ Create a national trade data hub – Unlike international trade, real-time data on interprovincial trade is almost nonexistent. How can policymakers fix what they can’t measure?
🛡️ Why This Matters NOW
As the U.S. ramps up Buy American policies, tariffs, and subsidies, Canada needs a stronger domestic trade network to stay competitive, resilient, and independent.
The Bottom Line? Internal trade reform isn’t just an economic play—it’s a national security strategy. 💡
So, will policymakers step up? Or will we keep paying the price of inefficiency?
What do you think? What’s the biggest trade barrier holding Canada back? Drop your thoughts below. ⬇️

🔊 NEW PODCAST: 5 Strategies to Navigate Business Transformation Amid Political Uncertainty & Protectionism
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve noticed the drastic increase in political uncertainty and protectionism. If you’re a business leader, this isn’t just an interesting topic—it’s a direct threat to your supply chains, revenue streams, and market positioning.
With tariffs, federal budget cuts, and shifting regulations reshaping the playing field, the old "wait-and-see" approach is no longer an option. But here's the good news: the best businesses use these challenges as catalysts for transformation.
💡 In this episode, I break down 5 winning strategies to help leaders not only survive but thrive in this shifting environment.
🔹 Diversify Supply Chains – The days of relying on one country for manufacturing are over. Apple’s move to India & Vietnam isn’t random—it’s a masterclass in risk management.
🔹 Invest in Political Risk Intelligence – The smartest companies don’t read the news; they influence it. Understanding policy shifts before they happen is a superpower.
🔹 Reallocate Capital for Growth – Cutting costs won’t save you—reallocating capital into innovation, R&D, and expansion will.
🔹 Strengthen Market Position Amid Protectionism – Tariffs and "Made in USA/Canada/France" policies are here to stay. Winning companies are already pivoting.
🔹 Build an Adaptive Leadership Culture – Agility isn’t just for startups. Netflix didn’t dominate by accident—it mastered reinvention.
🔥 I share firsthand experiences from my work in private equity, government advisory, and corporate innovation, plus real-world examples of companies leading the way.

Ever wondered what’s really being said in Washington’s power circles? My recent trip to D.C. offered more than a chance to celebrate my friend Nikhil Palli, now a proud Kentucky Colonel alongside icons like Lincoln and Churchill. It was also a fascinating window into the undercurrents shaping diplomacy, politics, and perceptions of Canada on the global stage.
Here are some of the intriguing takeaways I uncovered:
🔹 Diplomacy in “Interesting” Times
Caution was the vibe of the moment. Conversations in diplomatic circles felt unusually hesitant—people were careful about voicing opinions, especially on the Trump administration. Yet, even in whispers, sharp critiques emerged: comparisons to Putin, debates over China’s growing influence, and reflections on empathy (or lack thereof) in leadership.
🔹 Canada: A 51st State?
Here’s one that caught me off guard. Many Americans see Canada’s current struggles—immigration, healthcare, crime—as signals that the U.S. could “help out.” The idea of Canada as the 51st state wasn’t shocking to them. Some even called it an opportunity. How’s that for a perspective shift?
🔹 Immigration Woes
Canada’s “open door” image isn’t winning points. Stories of fake documents, infrastructure strains, and underemployed immigrants are turning once-eager families elsewhere. Middle-class Indians, for example, are reportedly less interested in Canada due to career stagnation and high living costs.
🔹 Budget Cuts and Civil Servant Angst
The mood among civil servants was grim. Federal budget cuts, including to USAID, sparked frustration and quiet unease. Many are in wait-and-see mode, hoping for interventions that may not come.
🔹 Trudeau, Freeland, and…Who?
Justin Trudeau’s firm stance on tariffs was well-received, while Chrystia Freeland earned praise for her diplomatic finesse. Mark Carney? Mostly positive vibes. Pierre Poilievre? A complete unknown. It’s clear that leadership perception plays a critical role in shaping Canada’s international reputation.
🔹 Canada’s Declining Glow
I wasn’t expecting this level of pessimism. Rising crime rates, an overwhelmed healthcare system, and strained infrastructure dominate perceptions of Canada. Even Toronto’s lower crime rates (compared to Chicago’s) didn’t budge the narrative much.
Washington may feel subdued (hello, 4 PM dinners), but it remains a hub of insight for those willing to tune into its undercurrents. My biggest takeaway? Staying connected and curious is more important than ever. When we truly listen, we learn—and when we learn, we lead.
🎧 Tune in to my podcast for the full story, and let me know: What do you think of Canada’s current reputation?

🍪 Beyond the Cookie-Cutter: A Tailored Approach to Transformation
Transformation isn’t just a buzzword—it’s a necessity for growth. Over the years, I’ve transformed countries, careers, industries, and even companies. But one thing remains constant: true transformation isn’t about survival—it’s about thriving.
Whether for individuals or organizations, successful transformation starts from within. It’s not about mimicking competitors or reacting to external pressures. Instead, it’s about recognizing and deepening your unique strengths—your DNA—and leveraging them for long-term success.
📌 Inside-Out Transformation: The Key to Success
🔹 Apple and Netflix didn’t succeed by copying others—they doubled down on their core strengths.
🔹 Transformation should be embedded in your strategy, not outsourced to a never-ending cycle of consultants.
🔹 Objectivity and independence drive real change, not corporate politics or recycled strategies.
✂️ A Tailored Approach to Transformation
🚀 Whether it’s market expansion, technology integration, or capital allocation, my approach is simple:
✔ Unique, strategic roadmaps aligned with your DNA
✔ No cookie-cutter solutions—only tailored, high-impact strategies
✔ Focus on long-term, sustainable transformation
Want to move beyond the one-size-fits-all approach and unlock real transformation? Let’s talk. 😉
