Pennod 56 - ‘O Bobl Cymru! Atoch chi y mae fy llais!’: Morgan Llwyd rhan 1

Listen Later

‘Dwi rŵan yn dallt y ffys’ yw geiriau Richard Wyn Jones ar ôl cael cyflwyniad i ryddiaith Morgan Llwyd yn y bennod hon.
Ac yntau’n Biwritan a geisiai gyflwyno math o Brotestaniaeth a oedd yn fygythiol o estron i’r rhan fwyaf o’i gyd-Gymry, manteisiai Morgan Llwyd ar ei brofiad fel pregethwr a’i ddoniau llenyddol syfrdanol i gyrraedd calonnau a meddyliau darllenwyr Cymraeg. Trafodwn y cymysgedd o syniadau crefyddol a ddylanwadodd ar ei waith. Ond yn bennaf, rhyfeddwn at rym rhyddiaith Morgan Llwyd ac angerdd y llais awdurol sy’n ein cyfarch mewn dau o’i destunau cyhoeddedig cynharach, Llythyr i’r Cymry Cariadus a Gwaedd yng Nghymru yn Wyneb Pob Cydwybod. Ceir yma hefyd deyrnged i olygydd modern cyntaf Morgan Llwyd, yr A. S. Rhyddfrydol, Tom Ellis.

‘Oh People of Wales! It is to you that me voice calls!’: Morgan Llwyd (1)
‘Now I understand the fuss’ are Richard Wyn Jones’ words after getting an introduction to the prose of Morgan Llwyd in this episode.
A Puritan attempting to introduce a kind of Protestantism which was threateningly foreign to most of his fellow Welsh people, Morgan Llwyd utilized his experience as a preacher and his stunning literary skills to reach the hearts and minds of Welsh readers. We discuss the mixture of religious ideas influencing his work. But for the most part, we marvel at the power of Morgan Llwyd’s prose and the passion of the authorial voice which addresses us in two of his earliest published texts, A Letter to the Loving Welsh and A Shout in Wales in the Face of Every Conscience. Here also is a tribute to Morgan Llwyd’s first modern editor, the Liberal M.P., Tom Ellis.
