Ashley Meyer served in the Air Force and traveled the world. She has been an aircraft mechanic, and is now a Confidence and Business Coach and podcaster, with more than 77 episodes. Like me, she's a one-woman show... we went through Cathy Heller's Your Turn to Podcast course together last fall. I was in a break-out group with Ashley during one of our sessions and just felt that her energy was so positive and supportive. I'm grateful we connected. We had an amazing conversation, and had intended to chat for an hour, but ended up getting into some pretty deep topics:

Heather Kalous is a high school PE teacher who believes kids need 2 skills to be successful in life: to know how to read and to be a good human. She teaches the latter through exercises and by example. You'll love hearing about:
Hear how we met and connected over a shared love of wine and the Iowa State Cyclones.
You'll also be inspired by her love of running and how she runs for Team Teal, honoring her mother and raising funds for other women and families affected by a cancer diagnosis.

You heard part of Jill Craven's story in one of my very first episodes. Her business, Starstruck AllStars is a very successful cheer, tumbling, and dance gym in central Iowa. She's been a friend since college.
Jill and Janet and I had our holiday lunch last week (Jennifer couldn't make it because her family went to the Liberty Bowl...and DANGIT! Cyclones! ugh... but I digress...). Anyhoooo... Jill and Janet and I had a wonderful conversation and Jill & I decided to continue it on my show. We had our chat on New Year's Day... about half-way through the Citrus Bowl (Oy! Hawks!!) Here we go again.... Our topic was about keeping positive and ... really.... about not being judged for making business decisions and sticking to them. As female entrepreneurs who grew up... in a different time.. it can be .. well.. challenging. But I think... personally... it comes down to setting expectations, communication, and consistency.
I'm hopeful for our future and see the opportunities and promise the new year brings. We have some ideas to share and I hope you'll share your thoughts... what do you plan to do this year?, and do you have any ideas for not letting emotions zap your energy and keeping your joy? Do you have a motto or word for the year?
Jill's (and Starstruck's) Motto for the year is "Win the Day"!
I'm still working on mine, but you know it's going to incorporate fun (and probably a toast). Maybe it should be "Wine the day!"?
The song Jill referenced in this episode: Girl in the Mirror, by Megan Moroney

As Director of Behavioral Health Services at St. Luke's, Carol Meade is passionate about mental health services. She's served the community for over 30 years, and worked at St. Luke's Hospital for the majority of her career.
Her passion for mental health care comes is evident in her work and in the accolades she receives. She was recently honored by Waypoint Services' Women of Achievement in Service to the Community. Three words that describe her are Resilient, Empathic, and Determined.
She's also one of my best friends and golfing buddy. We've solved many problems on the golf course and usually over "swing oil." At the end of our conversation, she "flips the script" and asks ME a question about what's next for me. I'm blessed to have friends who support and encourage me in my current transition.
One of the things we discussed on the golf course is a retreat she runs called Reigniting the Spirit of Caring... she just lights up when she describes it. I wish every company had this program, and someone like Carol to implement it.
Carol is hiring Psych Nurses! Click here to check out UnityPoint Health Career Opportunities

17.5 years
$350,000 in wine sold personally in the last 10 years alone (I estimate at least $500K with my first 4+ years added in),
over $12.6 M in sales from my team in the last 10 years
630+ team members at our peak (and well over 1000 have come and gone through the years)
18 earned incentive trips
5 elite leader trips around the world
Gone.
It was announced yesterday that Traveling Vineyard (as we have come to know it) has closed. A new company is emerging that will offer "our" most popular, sweet wines (Fissata, Fissata Blonde, and Double Date). As I learn more, I'll let you know. But it will be sales only. No teams. And it is out of my control.
I'm grateful for what cannot be taken away:
- enough wine knowledge to earn the CSW distinction
- countless friends and fun, including the best, long-lasting friendships that have stood the test of time (and hangovers)
- the partnerships with brilliant women and opportunity to learn more from them
- the flexibility to spend time with my parents in their last years of life
- the confidence and intestinal fortitude gained from rebuilding. Again.
I'm not sure what's next for me, but I know it will be bigger and better than before. It always is. I truly appreciate all of you, my friends. I'm so grateful for the memories of these past 17.5 years and look forward to new memories...wherever and however they arise.
In the meantime, if you've loved Traveling Vineyard wines (who didn't?!) Traveling Vineyard is offering a 25% discount while the bottles last. And I'll earn an affiliate commission on these sales when you order through my link. It doesn't replace the income lost, but it will be much appreciated (every little bit helps)! My link is: https://travelingvineyard.com/guide/winechick/
Please look for "You're shopping with Penny Fitzgerald" at the top.
Thank you from the bottom of my glass! For everything.

Laura Wayland's episode was the first interview I recorded for my podcast. I knew right away that I wanted to interview her. When I first started my wine business with Traveling Vineyard, Laura was one of the people I tried to emulate. She was savvy, enthusiastic, and fun! I wanted what she had, and asked her for help and insight as I built my team.
Back in 2010, when Traveling Vineyard reorganized, Laura took the opportunity to buy a wine shop and has since built that one business into many stores and tasting rooms, including wine, beer, cigars, olive oil, and coffee! Her story is fascinating, filled with grit, determination, and inspiration. A resounding theme is to ask for advice and then TAKE IT.
We've stayed friends through the years and we now travel together at least every-other year if not more frequently. I'm grateful to share these experiences with her and my other wine friends and hope you enjoy the Lessons from Laura.
Laura Wayland is the owner and operator of a retail group of coffee shops and gourmet experience stores throughout the Outer Banks of North Carolina. She developed her business skills while building a direct sales team through an in home wine tasting company as a stay at home mom. She took the knowledge she gained through her experience and purchased a wine and beer store, subsequently developing unique olive oil wine shops and owning three coffee shops in a highly competitive tourist beach market. With 20 years in the wine industry and 13 years as a retail store owner, Laura has achieved success through pursuing her passions while always betting on herself. Getting a bank loan, during the Great Recession with no collateral in a repressed economy taught her to be resourceful and strategic. She is a master at creating retail experiences and memorable moments for her customers. Her background in a direct sales business shaped her knowledge in dealing with customers, managing and motivating a team of employees, and working effectively when every dollar counts. Her focus now is on expanding the footprint of her coffee shops through franchising. https://franchise.frontporchcafe.com/
