In the fall of the year everything slows down, the temperature drops and we spend a lot more time huddled around crackling fires.  This DJ Mix commemorates the beginning of a new show I'm launching on FringFM called "MINDFIRE with Maverick Matthews". It's going to be a collection of stories from my travels and my time in Hollywood along with a Downtempo DJ set.  Downtempo is something I haven't worked extensively in so I'm excited to explore new terrain while documenting some of the wild adventures I have been fortunate enough to encounter working as a modern day Wildcatter for more than 25 years.  No story in this one though, you'll have to wait for the first episode of MINDFIRE for that.....  But this mix is stellar and I am proud to share it with you.  So start that fire and get settled in on this fall evening for some slow jamz.  Thank you for being here.   Pepper For Your Steak!

Train Hard, Love Truly and Be Abundant!

     Recently, while cleaning out my phone, I found several voice messages from two people who are no longer with us.  On this episode I share my experience of listening to these messages for the first time as a kind of catharsis and release from the past.

     The first comes from Michael Johnstone, who's interview you can hear in a previous episode of PFYS and who co-hosted my first podcasting experience over a decade ago from his snowboard shop in Northern New Mexico.  The second is from my mother, Dana West Carvalho.

      This indulgence into High Strangeness ends up with me pontificating on the meaning of life, the nature of beauty and exploring my ideas about the true nature of spirituality and religion.

     At least you can't fault this show for reaching for low hanging fruit, eh?  However somber and melancholy it may seem, however pretentious and far reaching, I promise you will leave feeling inspired, renewed and perhaps even invigorated in your searching for meaning and gratitude.  Thank you for your indulgence.
