Perfect Organism: The Alien Saga Podcast

In this episode, Patrick, Jaime, Perry, Andie and Micah discuss the "dream theory" that's surrounded Alien 3 since it's storied release in 1992. Why does this theory exist? What's behind it? We all try to answer these questions in our own way as re-engage a film that continues to be fiercely controversial while also gathering more support as each year passes. As with so many of our conversations, this was a spirited panel, and we hope you enjoy. In a shocking late-2025 announcement, we learned Fede Alvarez wouldn't be returning as director for the sequel to Alien: Romulus.

Months later, we still don't know why—and we still have no idea who'll be directing in his place!

On tonight's roundtable, the team spitballs about some scenarios. Should the story continue Rain and Andy's narrative? Who should direct it? What kind of tone should they aim for, and what do they need to get right to ensure it happens?

Join us as we have some fun gathering together for some speculation!

Tonight's episode also features our two newest team members: Mario Benvenuto and Kyle June!

The Perfect Organism Podcast strategy team in conversation about what truly makes ALIEN Alien. Building on the foundation Patrick and Jaime laid in part one, the team digs deeper into the thematic architecture of the series, why these ideas continue to resonate across generations, and what may be essential for Alien to evolve while remaining true to its core identity.

As always, thank you for listening, for thinking deeply alongside us, and for your continued support. It genuinely means everything.

A phrase we often throw around is "This (movie, TV show, book) feels like Alien."

But what does that actually mean? In today's episode, Jaime and Patrick attempt to figure that out.

We will return to this conversation in the new year, so please send us your thoughts in the meantime! You can do so at r/perfectorganism, Building Better Worlds, or by sending us an email via the Contact page on our website. We'd love to feature your voices!

You'll know Shaun Hamill is a lifelong Alien nerd within the first few pages of his new novel Alien: Perfect Organisms (out today, November 18, wherever books are sold!). With believable characters, a healthy dose of body horror, and extensive meditations on creativity and capitalism, Alien: Perfect Organisms is a wonderful new entry in the Expanded Universe.

Join Jaime and Patrick as they chat with Shaun about how the book came together, what Alien means in his life, and how the long and rich history of Alien novels is continuing strong in the 21st century.

Be sure to check Shaun's website, follow him on socials, and order your copy of the book!

In this episode, the Perfect Organism team unites to explore what the Alien series truly means to each of them. From Patrick’s fascination with the creature itself to Andie’s devotion to character, no corner of the franchise, or the human heart behind it, is left unexplored. Joining the crew is patron and returning guest Mario Benvenuto, who inspired this episode’s theme. Together, Patrick, Perry, Andie, Holden, Mario, and contributing host Micah Greene dive deep into their enduring love for Alien, and what keeps them coming back, again and again.

One of the great thrills of covering Alien: Earth's release was getting to speak with so many people involved with the show. We aired many of these interviews throughout the season as part of our aftershow, but we had to leave almost two hours' worth on the cutting room floor for the sake of brevity.

Presented here, for the first time as a single, cohesive audio documentary, are interviews with twenty-one of the key creatives who brought Alien: Earth to life. In approximate order of appearance, you'll hear:

We are hugely grateful to FX for helping facilitate all of these. Alien: Earth is now a piece of Alien history; having this sort of access in real time as it released was an unprecedented treat for us, and we're so happy we've been able to take all of YOU along on this journey with us!

After a month-long break that felt more like a deep breath after a storm, Jaime and Patrick return to the mic following a relentless stretch of Alien: Earth coverage. In this episode, they take a long, unflinching look at where the Alien universe stands today. From the legacy of the original trilogy to the uneven terrain of everything that followed, they explore how each new entry, film, or series has both carried and fractured the weight of what came before.

They also turn their focus to the future: who might take the director’s chair for the next Alien film, and whether the franchise can still surprise us in the way it once did. It’s a lively, impassioned, and deeply reflective conversation, recorded live on YouTube, about art, vision, and the fragile state of an iconic saga.

The Alien universe stands at a crossroads, full of promise, yet shadowed by hesitation. There’s still so much left to explore, if only the right hands are willing to reach into the dark.
