Sexuality is something that is not often talked about in the Asian American community. We grow up very sheltered and everything is very black or white in terms of what is allowed and accepted.. However as we get older, we learn that the spectrum of attraction, gender, sexuality runs so much deeper than what we’ve been taught.

When we were kids, our parents were our heroes - they seemed to do no wrong and taught us everything that we needed to know. As we got older and experienced life outside of our family dynamic, things started to change - we started to question those differences. We understand the frustrations and concerns including the main actress, YiFei’s, comments on the Hong Kong protests/police brutality and Disney’s decision to film Xinjiang where there are active Concentration Camps. We do not in anyway condone their behavior or actions and believe that this is something that Disney needs to address directly, and we hope they do so soon out of the respect of the one million lives that are still in suffering. 

With that being said, we respect everyone’s decision as to why they would or wouldn’t want to watch Mulan. This episode is meant to dissect the film based on our own love of the original animated one and the impact it has had on us as Asian Women, we hope you enjoy this episode.
