Henry Frayne is a laid back guy! This is reflected in his music. It’s relaxed, thoughtful, and purposefully made. From Ack Ack, to Area, The Moon Seven Times to Lanterna, his guitar playing is clean and beautiful. He focuses on instrumentals that let your imagination work. He talks about his career, his trouble with Apple algorithms, and recreating songs from fragments on old cassettes. He also sheds light on what the Ack Ack Hotel is. Post Punk legend and founder of The Membranes and Goldblade, John Robb. Before we go any further, the connection John and I had was not great. A million thanks to Jordon Zadorozny of Blinker The Star for helping to fix it as much as humanly possible. I’m releasing it, even with less than perfect audio because the conversation was great with some killer stories. John has been everywhere, done everything, and knows everybody! He tells me about playing punk gigs in church basements as a kid, playing illegal gigs in Czechoslovakia, and building a bass guitar out of driftwood. He’s one of the few people I know who has been even more productive during the pandemic than before! He also discusses his music website Louder Than War and how he started interviewing musicians. Another million thanks goes out to Rob Marshall of Humanist for getting John and I connected. Check out louderthanwar.com. Follow John on social media. He’s a great follow. Follow us @PerformanceAnx. Rate & review the shows! We accept coffee at ko-fi.com/performanceanxiety. Merch is found at performanceanx.threadless.com. We are joined by Pablo Alvarez of Good Bison. His story begins with his emigration from Colombia to Miami as a kid. He went from not speaking any English to freestyle rapping for 26 hours to set the Guinness World Record! Good Bison formed after Pablo’s original band, Dinosaurs ‘N Disasters fizzled out after moving from Miami to LA. After recording a Point Break themed album, they have a new EP coming out. It’s short and fun and a new addition into my rotation. Give them a follow @goodbison. Follow us @PerformanceAnx. We accept coffee on ko-fi.com/performanceanxiety. Merch is buyable at performanceanx.threadless.com. Grab a beverage and relax for a fun conversation with Pablo Alvarez & Good Bison.

If you’re a fan of shoegaze, this show was meant for you. My guest is Moose McKillop of the shoegaze pioneers, Moose; but more recently of the non-supergroup, Piroshka. Moose is the band that spawned the term shoegaze. Or rather, the term was spawned during one of their first live performances. Moose talks about how the band changed their sound pretty early on, his longtime connection with Miki Berenyi & Lush, & meeting Jeff Buckley in Atlanta. After a long hiatus, Moose formed the band Piroshka with Miki, Justin Welch, & Michael Conroy. Follow Piroshka for news about their upcoming release & possible tour dates! Follow us @PerformanceAnx. Rate & review to help us meet new listeners. We love it when you buy us a cup of coffee at ko-fi.com/performanceanxiety. Merch is available at performanceanx.threadless.com. So grab a drink and some snacks as we revisit some amazing times with Moose McKillop on Performance Anxiety on the Pantheon Podcast Network.

Today we have the distinct pleasure of speaking with concert promoter extraordinaire, Danny Zelisko. He’s worked with the biggest names in rock and roll and he’s just released a book that’s full of great stories and pictures. He talks about DJ’ing a Led Zeppelin gig, helping Hall of Fame pitcher Randy Johnson warm up, flying to LA on an air mail flight, and the day to day life of a concert promoter. It’s a fascinating look behind the scenes of how your favorite bands end up in your favorite venues. Pick up the book on amazon or at dzplive.com. Follow Danny on social media. I’m so pleased to release this episode! I have such a great guest in Donna Jean Godchaux, but I’m also joined by my good friend and former podcast co-host, Tommy Caprio. Donna Jean has been a part of some legendary recordings, like Percy Sledge’s When A Man Loves A Woman and Elvis’ 1968 Comeback special. But that was all before moving to California. She moved just to have an adventure, music wasn’t the reason. Then she saw the Grateful Dead. She and her husband Keith joined the band and toured the world with the Dead from 1972-1979. She’s been doing her own music ever since, including a new remix of the song Shelter by Donna Jean & The Tricksters. I want to thank Donna Jean for joining me and Tommy for lending his Grateful Dead knowledge to the show. Check out the remix wherever you get music. Check out Tommy’s podcasts, The Unsolicited & I’m Walking Here. Follow us @PerformanceAnx. Coffee is accepted at ko-fi.com/performanceanxiety. Merch is at performanceanx.threadless.com. Review the show. It helps more people find it. Now join me and Tommy Caprio as we chat with Donna Jean Godchaux on Performance Anxiety on the Pantheon Podcast Network.

Bob Lord does a lot of things. He’s the CEO of PARMA Recordings. He’s the bassist for the long running, genre defying band Dreadnaught. And now he can add solo artist to the list. He has recorded what can only be described as possibly the most eclectic album of the year called Playland Arcade. It’s filled with surfing western sounds, orchestral snippets, and 8-bit jams. Bob also talks about the future of classical music and artists. It’s a lot funnier than it sounds. Follow Bob @boblordmusic on social media. Pick up the album Playland Arcade if you want a fun album. Follow us @PerformanceAnx. Help us get in front of more folks with 5 star reviews and ratings. We accept coffee at ko-fi.com/performanceanxiety. Merch is at performanceanx.threadless.com. Today we head to France with Rabih Gebeile. We decide to take a walk through the French countryside and no, that’s not a euphemism. So occasionally there will be a bit of wind noise. But Rabih has led a fascinating life, including escaping civil wars. He’s lived all over the world and all of this can be felt and heard in his music. It’s also been influenced by the medical condition his father developed several years ago, called normal pressure hydrocephalus. We discuss how moving so often as a kid has had an effect on him (and me) as we get older. We disagree on French gangster rap, and he ruins my conspiracy theory of 8’s with coincidence. Rabih also talks about how he felt the first time he found a bootleg of his albums. This episode has something for everyone, including birds, angry cows, and overly affecioante dogs. Follow Rabih @mondocane_tv. Get the EP on Bandcamp. Send it to other people! Send this show to other people; rate & review it. We accept coffe at ko-fi.com/performanceanxiety. Merch is up at performanceanx.threadless.com. Get some comfy shoes on and walk with me & Rabih Gebeile on Performance Anxiety on Pantheon Podcasts.

Astrid Young comes from a long line of creative people. Her father is legendary writer, journalist, & author Scott Young. And her brother is...well her brother is Neil Young. Those are some tough acts to follow. Astrid talks about growing up and getting into music in her own way. She describes what it was like when Neil asked her to sing on Harvest Moon. There are some great stories about the Unplugged show and Road Rock. She’s also done some cool work with Nancy Wilson, Heart, and her own solo work, which is clearly different from her brother’s music. She’s played metal, desert rock, folk, and some wild alternative music. And she wrote and starred in a movie and wrote a biography (which she is considering expanding on, with the help of her brothers). Her latest album features Victor DeLorenzo on drums and the Integratron. Definitely look into the album and the structure. Give her a follow on IG @wandaplez to keep up with what she’s up to. Follow us @PerformanceAnx. Rate & review us because it helps get us in front of people. We accept coffee at ko-fi.com/performanceanxiety. Merch is at performanceanx.threadless.com. Now buckle up because there’s a lot going on on this one with Astrid Young on performance Anxiety on the Pantheon Podcast Network.

Beth Jeans Houghton, AKA Du Blonde, joins the show. We talk about the value of free shoes, week long constipation, and bootlegging your own records. We swap childhood phone numbers and in between all these hilarious tangents, we talk about her career, from the beginning to the new Du Blonde album, Homecoming.
