  • Don Rauf (Life In A Blender)

Don Rauf from Life In A Blender joins us today. They have a new EP out called Satsuma, and it’s kind of special. Not only does it contain 6 great new songs, 5 of which were inspired by the Bushwick Book Club, but there is beautiful artwork, AND a cocktail recipe for each track! But we go a lot deeper than that. Don talks about how his musical journey began in a Poughkeepsie dump. And if you think the name Life In A Blender is offbeat, you should hear the alternatives!

As this pandemic lingers on, Life In A Blender’s new 20 page EP of music, art, & booze is a real gift. Check it out on Fang records, follow them on social media. Follow us @PerformanceAnx. Subscribe, rate, & review. And check us out on ko-fi.com/performanceanxiety & consider treating us to a single cup of coffee. We’ll all share it. There’s no commitment. Now let’s mix it up with Don Rauf of Life In A Blender on Performance Anxiety, part of the Pantheon Podcast Network.

  • Spencer Cullum (Miranda Lambert)

This episode took me by surprise, I have to admit. I’m joined by pedal steel guitarist Spencer Cullum. Not only is he an in demand session player in Nashville (via London), but he’s been playing with Miranda Lambert for the past four years. Not being a huge country music fan, I really wasn’t sure what to expect. But what I got was one of the nicest conversations I’ve had this year. Spencer learned the instrument with the legendary BJ Cole, played Stones-y rock with Deadstring Brothers, & pushes the boundaries of pedal steel with his band Steelism. But he has a new album out called Spencer Cullum’s Coin Collection, which he likens to a cult, but with less death. It’s less country, more Meddle-era Pink Floyd. You should probably go buy it. Check him out on social media. Check us out @PerformanceAnx. Subscribe, rate, & review!

If you like these shows, consider picking us up a cup of coffee at ko-fi.com/performanceanxiety. There’s no commitment. So let’s slide on into Spencer Cullum’s Coin Collection on Performance Anxiety, part of the Pantheon Podcast Network.

  • South Of Eden

Today I’m joined by Justin Young & Tom McCullough from South of Eden. These guys were so much fun to have on the show. I’m going to go ahead and anoint them the newest comedy team in rock. They’ve got an EP out called The Talk and a full length album on the way. They’ve also got some cool covers either out of possibly on the way. Or are they drawing album covers? They’re a little vague on that one. They give me the run down on why they changed their name from Black Coffee to South of Eden. They actually considered using The New Originals, which is one reason why I love these guys. And if you know that reference, I love you, too! I also get two sides of the same story where Justin thwarts a robbery with consequences while touring. Follow them on social media. They’re not hard to find. Follow us @PerformanceAnx. Subscribe, rate, & review! And if you like the shows we’re putting out, feel free to check us out at ko-fi.com/performanceanxiety & buy us a cup of coffee. No commitment necessary. • Ken Wohlrob (Swarm Of Flies, Eternal Black)

Today I’m speaking with guitarist & sometimes frontman, Ken Wohlrob. Ken is never one to sit still, as you will find out. During the pandemic, he’s been forced, like most musicians, to take a hiatus from his two bands, Eternal Black & End of Hope. So Ken decided to start another project called Swarm of Flies. It’s a revolving cast of members and a completely new way of creating music for Ken. He’s released a couple of songs through Bandcamp already and they could not be more different from each other! Each SOF track will be released as a single when it’s completed. You can pick up the first two at Bandcamp. Follow Ken, Eternal Black, & End of Hope on social media. Follow us @PerformanceAnx on social media, too. If you like the shows we’re giving you, consider buying us a cup of coffee. We’ll all split it. There’s no commitment. And subscribe, rate, & review us to help spread the word. Now let’s hear all the buzz about Ken Wolhrob & Swarm of Flies.

  • Albert Bouchard (Blue Oyster Cult)

Welcome Blue Oyster Cult drummer Albert Bouchard to the show. He gives a great history lesson about the band, including the gig that was so bad they had to change their name. He’s happy to talk (again) about the classic SNL cowbell skit and how he turned off the show just before it aired. He also taught for years and has had some very talented students you might recognize.

He has re-recorded the BOC album Imaginos as Re Imaginos. Albert tells me the convoluted story of the original release and why he decided to finally redo it. Pick up the album because it’s now the way it was originally intended to be. Follow Albert on social media & YouTube. Follow us @PerformanceAnx on social media. If you enjoy this, consider getting us a cup of coffee at ko-fi.com/performanceanxiety.com. There’s no commitment. And let’s get right into the show before there’s a siege and investiture of the Performance Anxiety Podcast.

  • Max Phelps (Exist)

Max Phelps from Exist joins me on this episode. We jump right into a discussion on the the influence of jazz on his music, latest Tool album, cliché Tool fans, and the greatness of Chris Poland. And how the band’s name, Exist, is a problem on Google. Max also explains how the last two albums, So True So Bound & Egoiista, were recorded at around the same time. But after a serious health scare, Egoiista had to be delayed. Give Exist a follow on Instagram @exist_band_official. Follow us @PerformanceAnx. If you like what you’re hearing, consider buying us a cup of coffee @ ko-fi.com/performanceanxiety. There no commitment and it helps keep the show going. It’s been a long pandemic, so there’s no puns today. Here’s Max Phelps of Exist on Performance Anxiety.

  • Jon Anderson (Yes)

This episode we speak to a musical legend. Jon Anderson has been singing since the early 60’s and he’s still going strong. In addition to all the albums he’s made with Yes, he’s worked with Vangelis, John Paul Jones, Toto, Anderson, Bruford, Wakeman, and Howe, & more. His voice is one of the most unique in music, but he wasn’t always comfortable with it. And when the sound of Yes changed in the 80’s, he talks about how he adjusted. He gives us some great news about a couple of albums. Jon also talks about his new album, 1000 Hands, new single Go Screw Yourself AND his experience with interdimensional realities. Oh, and he also tries Mongolian throat singing for me.

Follow him on social media. Pick up 1000 Hands in all the usual places. Follow us @PerformanceAnx. And if you like the shows we’re giving you, consider treating us to a cup of coffee at ko-fi.com/performanceanxiety. I now present to you, Jon Anderson of Yes on Performance Anxiety.

  • El Ten Eleven

I’m fortunate enough to have Kristian Dunn and Tim Fogarty, AKA El Ten Eleven on the podcast. They’ve been a band for 18 years and in addition to finding out how they met and began playing, I learned that Kristian hears music in the strangest places, like hearing the theme to Land of the Lost in his dishwasher. There’s a lot of joking, some at Brian Eno’s expense (I guess he’s never coming on the podcast). I hear some touring disaster stories, including a time when Kristian’s back went out on stage and how their new album, Tautology, grew from being an EP to a triple album! Check them out on all the streaming platforms (which they love!), bandcamp, or their website, elteneleven.com. Follow us @PerformanceAnx.

If you enjoy the shows, feel free to check us out at ko-fi.com/performanceanxiety and you can get us a cup of coffee. There’s no commitment or subscription necessary. I hope you enjoy this episode with Kristian and Tim of El Ten Eleven.

  • The Flat Five

Welcome Kelly Hogan, Nora O’Connor, & Casey McDonough of The Flat Five. The best way to describe this band’s music is familiar but surprising. They write nostalgic songs with lyrics about big bags of dope, kazoos, hot wheels, & peeing on the side of the road.

Kelly, Nora, & Casey were a blast even though we had to fight through some connection problems. They love playing music with each other and just enjoying their connection, and it shows. And then we have a hat fight. Follow them on social media, but make sure it’s The Flat Five from Chicago. Follow us @PerformanceAnx and check out the other great shows on the Pantheon Podcast Network. And if you like our show, consider buying us a cup of coffee on ko-fi.com/performanceanxiety.
