Josh Kerr Set A New Men's Record In The Mile.

Scottish middle-distance runner Josh Kerr set a new men's world record in the mile, breaking a 27-year-old mark. He ran the race in 3 minutes and 42.66 seconds. 

Record Details

Athlete: Josh Kerr (age 28, from Scotland/Great Britain)

Time: 3 minutes, 42.66 seconds

Date: July 18, 2026

Location: London Stadium, England (at the London Diamond League Emsley Carr Mile)

Previous Record: 3 minutes, 43.13 seconds, set by Morocco's Hicham El Guerrouj in Rome in 1999 

Race Highlights

Runner-up: American Yared Nuguse finished second with a time of 3:45.69, more than three seconds behind Kerr.

Physical Toll: Kerr reported that he temporarily lost his hearing and went completely deaf in the final 110 meters of the intense race.

Project 222: The run was the successful final target of his months-long campaign aiming for a 3:42 mile (totaling 222 seconds).
