You are welcome to listen in as I "explain things scientific". I have had great fun with lasers, robots and absorbing Quantum Physics. Now as a classroom teacher, laid low by heart surgery its time t... more

June 17, 2018What is next after Quantum Mechanics. This New Scientist article was a bit hard for me to read. Mostly there is a well known distinction between causality (one thing effecting the next) and simultaneity. so where do you go from here with this article? Also entanglement does not violate causality... but you have to really go into it. Worth listening to but you would not want to learn you physics from this article. Podcast ...more6minPlay
June 17, 2018The impact of video refereesI read this very interesting article from New Scientist. The flash lag effect and the effect of interpreting slow motion show are two sides of the coin on video refereeing. The final philosophical take is interesting. Podcast ...more6minPlay
June 17, 2018The location of the first life.Read from new scientist. Scientist are looking at the location on earth of the first life. Identified is the genetic code, the energy flow, and the cell sack all have to come together. I did not know the sugar ribose was the backbone of RNA .Podcast ...more10minPlay
June 17, 2018Podcast AutomationNow I am putting together Laview software I used to program robots and teaching assist software to take over the management of Podcasting. Still it uses old DOS commands and I lost 1/2 hour before I figured out that I had to send a carriage return as you would as if it were from a console. Its is okay but still not really smart. Podcast Blogger does not allow passing of # tags, which is vital to pass it to feedburner then onto twitter....more6minPlay
June 17, 2018Review of RutherfordIn this article I cross check and improve my earlier recall that Rutherford was engaged in a series of exploratory experiments, conceptualized the nucleus and then had a clincher experiment designed that confirmed his hypothesis with extraordinary accuracy. This is way better than the standard issue fare that suggests the experiment was conducted and then the called over Rutherford. Also in the podcast I doubted my recall that Rutherford was a Kiwi, but that is all true. Podcast Dr Peter Hill Science teacher / Physicist ...more5minPlay

June 17, 2018Big Bang and strings inside the gluonsI labour through a science syllabus point on the energy being converted to matter in the seconds after the big bang. I will get a smooth explanation eventually. Podcast This diagram, I struggle with at a few levels. It doesn't cover flux channeling and why gluons are a short range massless particle. The confusion is not bad, but rather interesting....more46minPlay
June 16, 2018Basic Atomic and Nuclear Physics for school.Having actually done some of these experiments I comment. Podcast I had read this below earlier in the day and podcasted while walking at night From the syllabus: Structure of the Atom Inquiry question: How is it known that atoms are made up of protons, neutrons and electrons? Students: ● investigate, assess and model the experimental evidence supporting the existence and properties of the electron, including: – early experiments examining the nature of cathode rays – Thomson’s charge-to-mass experiment – Millikan's oil drop experiment (ACSPH026) ● investigate, assess and model the experimental evidence supporting the nuclear model of the atom, including: – the Geiger-Marsden experiment – Rutherford’s atomic model – Chadwick’s discovery of the neutron (ACSPH026)...more58minPlay
